hi, my goal isnt necassarily to "lose weight," but rather to be healthy overall. im not concerned with what the scale says, however as a result of changing my lifestyle to incude better nutrition and exercise, i expect to lose extra body fat in the process. for about two months now i have been running approx. 2 miles a day, 6 days a week. i also do sit ups one day and lift weights the next. my legs and arms are starting to really tone up, however my gut has remained unchanged. i dont weight myself often, but the last time i checked which was saturday it read 185, which is down from 190. i feel like there should have been a bigger change after as hard as im working. after i graduated high school, i weighed 220, and then a year later a weighed only 170. i didnt do anything then and some how lost 50 pounds. why am i having so much trouble now?

How long ago since you graduated? Being younger usually comes with that benefit depending on your body type. Also for males the abdominal region is the last area to lose fat. You also are probably experiencing newbie gains with the weight training you are doing (fast muscle growth in a sense, they only happen in the beginning) which is offsetting the number on the scale with the fat you are also losing. Rest is also key, remember not to over-train and get plenty of rest, it really helps with fat loss. Monitor your fat by taking a body fat percentage caliper test. Ignore the scale.

thanks for the reply jamingman. it was 2006 when a graduated, so it would have been 07 when i was very thin. (i actually felt like i was a little too thin.) i dont even own a scale, mostly because i know the number will just give me something to obsess over. i actually just got in from a 2 mile run.
you mention i need to get enough rest, and not push my self too hard. do you think i am pushing myself to hard? whenever im too sore or too tired, i usually either take a day off, cut my run short, or take a really easy run. a couple weeks ago i took a 3 mile run and my knees were too sore for any more running, so i took a couple days off.
