Hello, everyone! :seeya:

I am new to the forums. I'm a 23 year old female and I am currently a doctoral student.
Since I am a graduate student, I am busy and stressed 99.9% of the time (I'm sleeping the other .1%!) Over the last 8-9 months I've gained about 15 pounds. I'm very short and am finding myself having a difficult time fitting into my clothes-- this has caused me to go on the path of weight loss. Ideally, I'd like to lose 20-25 pounds. My most difficult challenges will include finding motivation to work out when I'm exhausted from long days in the lab and finding new, exciting recipes to try so I don't fall off the bandwagon. Historically I've taken part in "crash" diet cycles, where I cut out a lot of food types and work out for 2-3 months, lose a good amount of weight, and go back to eating poorly for a year. My goal is to avoid going back into that unhealthy cycle and maintain a healthy lifestyle of eating right and working out after I lose the weight in order to maintain that weight.

Anyway, I don't want to rant. Just wanted to introduce myself! :) Of course any advice/tips are appreciated!

Hey there. I'm new too and I'm kind of on that same path to shed the pounds and keep it off for good! Just for different reasons. Welcome. What I've been doing to keep my fingers and mouth away from the extra snacks and overeating is to keep active whether to workout, clean, play games.. Work is another agenda adds to being tired. But everyone will vary because of their own lifestyle. But I wish you luck and if you can, update your progress!

Welcome to you both, floridagirl7 and Tekneeq! Yes, it takes strong, lasting, motivation to keep the fat off, at least long enough so that it becomes a way of life. For me, I think of all the good things that come from being thin, how good you look and feel, you walk with pep, you have great self confidence, and most of all, your reducing the risk of getting ill.

And then think back to all the bad things from being too heavy. Your both still young, in a few more years, you don't want to join those that are unfit, unhealthy, you see them everywhere. The time to grow older in great health is by starting right now.

I've also found staying trim and healthy is pretty much something you do for yourself, I must constantly resist others that have no idea of your struggles when they suggest unhealthy eating, I just politely say no. Very hopefully you have supportive people in your lives.

Welcome to the forum.

Stress is not good for weight control - but it isnt good for our general health or performance either. In my opinion you would benefit from trying to reduce your stress levels. If I were you I would look carefully at whether there were areas where you could manage your time better... Sometimes we refuse help because we are perfectionists or we check things time and time again.

It is important to get enough sleep for both stress and performance and weight control too... Ensure that you allocate enough time for this.

Meditation and yoga can help too.

Ensure that your diet contains food that aid tryptophan / serotonin - like milk and turkey

These are good for stress.

Finding time to exercise would help too.

I suggest that you read the following thread - it may help you settle in and make friends

Good luck with your project.
