Hello All!
I've done some browsing on the forum, and I really like it. People here seem to be really helpful, and I think it is the place that will help me reach my goal.
I'm Male, 22 years old, and 6' tall. I just weighed myself today and have hit my all time high of 240 lbs. My goal is to be 180 lbs.
I'm good about motivating myself to lose weight. But I'm not great at it.
My main motivation for losing weight is to be healthier. Being fat isn't helping me feel or be healthy.
I have been able to lose weight in the past. I know that I can do it. I've eaten healthier, I've exercised, etc. but somehow, I tend to lose my focus during the process and start gaining the weight back.
Don't get me wrong, I don't crash diet. I don't look for the quickest way to lose weight. I want to lose it right, and lose it for good.
In the past, I have changed the way I eat. I will eat healthier, and during some of these "phases", I would calorie count. I would try to keep my calories around 1500 - 1800 calories / day. A few months ago, I was eating healthy and was exercising almost daily. I lost about 10 pounds or so, and then I got busy with school again so I wasn't able to keep up.
About a month and a half ago, I started this again. I started eating healthier, and exercising almost daily. This time, it including some weight training and cardio. I understand that the best way to lose fat is to gain muscle. I don't plan on becoming a body builder or anything, but having more lean muscle will help me burn fat.
During school, I would play basketball on a regular schedule. I would play every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for about 2 - 3 hours. Sometimes, I would play on a Tuesday, a Thursday, or a Saturday. I could play anywhere between 3 - 5 times a week. Since I graduated, I haven't had access to a gym. I can't afford a gym membership right now, at least not until I start working. It's really hard to find people that would play on a regular basis. I can't seem to find enough people to get a good game going. Due to this, I haven't played since graduation. It was easier then, just go to the school gym, meet the regular group, and play for a couple hours or so. There would always be people there too.
The bad thing about college was the diet. It wasn't easy to always be home and eat properly. I would end up eating out a lot and eating a lot of fast food. It would be the easy way to get some food, especially during those late nights. The alcohol and late night pizza didn't help either.
Granted I wasn't eating the healthiest, I wasn't gaining weight because of how much basketball I was playing. But I wasn't losing any either.
So my plan is to start eating right again. Eating a balanced diet, eating no junk food, and getting back to a regular exercise routine. I plan on keeping my calorie intake to around 1500 - 1800 calories / day. I also plan on doing some weight/circuit training 3 times a week, with a concentration on abs twice per week. The other days I plan on doing some sort of cardio workout.
But I know I'll need help. I know that I'll lose some weight, I know that I'll stick to the plan. The hard part is sticking to it, say 2 weeks from now. I really want it to stick this time. I want to be healthier, I don't want to be fat anymore.
Thanks for reading. I appreciate any questions, suggestions, comments, etc. I'm sure this community will help me reach my goal.
