Hola!

So here is the deal. I've been overweight since, well since always. But after many years of being a jolly fat person who just wished they were thin I've finally gotten into the mindset of being serious about getting to a reasonable weight.

So since the fall I've been working on loosing weight, and it has been going well so far. I started in the fall by buying a scale and reducing the portions that i eat, drinking a boat load of water, as well as cutting out junk and eating better foods, I love cooking so making my own more healthy meals isn't an issue, but i did take a bit of will power to discover foods beyond cheese and butter, it's an ongoing process but it's is coming along.

I've lost a bunch of weight on just changing my food strategy (about 30lb), but I loath counting calories so the success has really just be coming from me using logic and winging it from there.

In the new year I decided that I need to just suck it up and start being more active to help with the weight-loss and just to help myself feel more healthy in general. So i set a goal of doing a bike marathon in the summer (i enjoy cycling), and got a gym membership so I could get myself in shape over the winter.

I've started out by doing cardio on the upright bikes ( I started at 20min, but have steadily upped it to 40min) and then I hit the weight machines doing 3 rounds of 10 reps per muscle group. After that I go back to do some lighter cardo on the bike, treadmill, or summit machine for about 15 to 20 min, just a bonus fun time type thing. I do this 4 times a week, with a day in-between (save for sunday/monday) for rest.

Since the whole gym thing has started I've dropped another 10lb.

So here are the current stats:

Gender: Female
Age: 32
Height: 5'4"
Weight: 240 (at this point)
Smoker: Yeah (and no I don't plan on quitting anytime soon)

Ok, so that's still pretty grim, but I'm trying so cut me some slack.

Anyway, I've been enjoying the gym (who knew!), but I want to keep my workouts fresh so I don't get sick of it all, and I really want to be able to complete this bike ride that I'm planning in the summer.

I actually really enjoy the whole weight lifting bit. I would like to move into doing free weights, but haven't got there yet because I'm still a little spooked about those (partially because it is not a very girl friendly portion of my gym, but mostly because I'm not that confident about form and technique).

As for cardio, is less fun mostly because i am really attacking it hard, and I'm naturally lazy, but I feel good that i am progressing and I'm still motivated to do it so that's good. I'd like to start working in interval training, but I'm not sure if It is the best course for me or not.

Also, over the last week I have been lurking in this form to help with the motivation and get some tips, this has also prompted me to started counting my calories (loosely for now) because I know that it will become an important part of this whole thing, but like i said before, I really hate doing that.

Anyway, Hello all, sorry for being so long winded.

Welcome to the forum!

If you really want to lose weight, you can do it. Good luck with the bike ride, you are planing. That's something to look forward to.
