Hi everyone,

I'm 21, I lost 2 stone 2 years back and then gained it all back again. I'm not trying to blame anyone/anything as its been through choices I have made myself.. but I used to work in retail whilst studying at Uni so was always on my feet rushing about, however a year ago having completed my degree I got a job in an office where I spend most of the day sitting on a chair - I think this has had the biggest impact on me as it has reduced my activity levels tremendously.

So ... in a few hours today is about to end. Tomorrow is my new fresh start.

I know for a fact I don't drink enough ... 4-5 cups of tea a day, no water. As of tomorrow I'm going to aim to drink a litre and a half a day.

I've downloaded the "my fitnesspal" app to track what I eat.

Starting Sunday I'm going to start the couch to 5k running scheme , 30 day squat challenge also the 30 Day Shred, after completing this I'm going to move on to Insanity. Everyone has been telling me to join the Gym and I know that it would be most helpful ... I just cant afford it right now /: so the above activities are going to push me through for now.

Tomorrow 11/04/2015 is my fresh start, with my goal to lose 3 stone and get fit. Hopefully this time round I will stick to it and make it a permanent change rather than a temporary diet.

Wish me luck, and I hope to get to know some of you throughout my journey (hopefully that doesn't sound too cringey /: haha)

Thanks for reading :)

Hi Tory

I gained weight too when I left uni and got an office job. I hear so many other people say the same thing too. I am interested in hearing about your journey as I can identify with it quite a bit. Also, please will you let me know how useful the my fitnessapp is, as a few people have mentioned this to me. What is your diet like by the way? Are you planning on drastic diet changes, or mainly increased exercise?

I'm also trying to build up to a 5k at the minute as I am doing the race for life muddy 5k in July and want to be able to run it without stopping if I wanted to.

I have been losing weight for about 13 weeks now and have lost roughly 2 stone 11lbs.

Good luck with your fresh start tomorrow, and if I can answer any questions you may have, please let me know :)

Lisa

Hi Lisa,

Thanks for replying :) I think I normally eat pretty well, except from when I'm with my boyfriend ... I've definitely put on most of the weight since I've been with him. So I've instructed him to tell me off every time I try to cheat /:

I've started the app today ... I basically just scanned the barcodes of the things I ate and it registered the calories. When you register the app it asks your height/weight etc and it works out how many calories to eat a day to lose a steady amount of weight. Mine has programmed me to eat 1,244 calories a day. You just log your meals and your exercise. I think its a good way to make a note of what you eat .. because you're so conscious of recording the foods you eat I think your less likely to nibble on bits in-between.

2 stone 11 is amazing in 13 weeks!! Well done! If you don't mind me asking, what plan/routine have you been following. I want to ideally lose about three stone and would be ecstatic to lose it in a similar time frame to you!

You sound prepared and ready to make this happen. That is the biggest aspect -- the mentally prepared. I feel you're going to do some great things over the new few weeks and months, and the rest of your life. Welcome to the forum.

I joined up to Slimming World, but haven't really been following their plan. I worked out early on what works for me, and I realise I have to be quite strict with my diet. I haven't eaten any crisps, sweets, chocolate, takeway etc since doing it. I cut out bread, although I didn't eat much before hand. I have pasta occasionally still, as sometimes you just need carbs! :D

I increased my exercise slightly and have started to run small distances 2 or 3 times a week. I don't eat ready meals etc and cook most meals myself from scratch so I know exactly what is going into them. I still go to weigh in each week as to be honest knowing I am going to get weighed each time gives me motivation to do well.

Now for me my lifestyle has completely changed, and I can't see me ever going back to how I used to eat. I also now eat breakfast (which I never used to) as it kick starts my metabolism for the day. I also always make sure there is tonnes of fruit in the house for when I get hungry/want a snack.

Hope that helps :)

Welcome! You sound determined - that's awesome! Try not to do too much too soon. If you are just starting, you may want to scale back the activity a little bit (but try it out first and see how it goes. It could work for you). You don't want to burn out or get frustrated and give up. I love the C25K program. That's how I started running too! :) You can do this! Good for you!

Great that you have decided to start drinking more water. They say you should be drinking about 3.5 liters a day. But if you also eat a lot of fruit and drink tea or other liquids then I would say that much water is way too much. But about one glass (~2dl) of water in the morning and then every hour after that and during the day and afternoon too, that should be good. In the evening you don't have to drink so much, it will only make you have to run to the loo during the night.

Hi, thank you for the welcome! :) Fingers crossed you're right!

Hi :) Thanks for the welcome. I was thinking I might do the C25k for the first week and then introduce extra exercise in ... I've done the 30 day shred before so I know I'm capable, its just finding the privacy in the house to do it /: I enjoy walking a lot and I tend to go out most evenings for a walk not necessarily for exercise but just a way of clearing my head so my brother who is a gym buff lol has recommended that I get some ankle and/or wrist weights to wear on the walk just so there is a bit of weight/toning going on whilst I walk.

Thank you for the positivity, fingers crossed you're right!

Hi, thank you for your message. I didn't realise it was 3.5litres a day! I thought it was 2 litres/8 glasses... I'm not a big drinker so I struggle with drinking just 1 litre so 3.5litres is going to be tough!! But I will give it a go!

Hey, Tory. Welcome to the site!!!

If you haven't yet, you should start a journal in the Weight Loss Diary section. Most of us keep a journal and keep tabs on one another, so that's a great way to get support and advice from people who are going through the same struggle as you.

I've downloaded the "my fitnesspal" app to track what I eat.

My girlfriend and I have that app and, although I don't use it nearly as much as she does, it is a GREAT tool in helping you keep track of your progress during your weight loss journey.

Hi, thanks for the welcome :)

My boyfriend downloaded it at the same time as me too and he isn't as strict with it as I am ... Maybe its a guy thing lol.
