I just joined a few minutes ago! Hello. :seeya:

I'm 21, 6' tall and I weight 220 pounds. I recently just lost (quit!) a really bad job. I'm looking into moving back home to Pennsylvania and going to school! However, I'm also starting my journey into losing weight!

I don't have a particular number in my head of what I want to weigh, I just want to be healthier overall and a little less jiggly. :)

Also, a little about me; I love music! Playing drums, guitar, recording and listening to it. I also enjoy driving and bicycle riding. :auto:

I am looking forward to jumping right in and meeting all of you!

Hi Cody and welcome to the forum. If I may ask, what steps are you are looking to take in order to lose the weight?

Well I've been replacing most of my sugary drinks with water. I didn't drink that much soda or anything anyway, just a lot of sweet tea ..so that's not a huge change. I'm also trying to cut my portions down a little and eat generally healthier stuff with less snacks and things in between. I have 2 nephews and a niece, so this has been hard with halloween having just passed. :p

On top of that I try to go for a long bike ride every afternoon now. I live in Florida, so the weather is generally really nice for it. I've been looking up what kind of exercises I should be doing/starting with also. I've been looking into a lot of cardio exercises to start trying. I don't really know a whole lot about exercising to be honest, so I'm just kind of playing it by ear. I've also started a blog for myself so I can hopefully track my results/come back and look at them if I'm ever not feeling motivated. :)

Hey Cody. Nice to see another musician on board. I'm currently obsessed with Reason 5/Record 1.5 and love making weird music with it. I can finally add guitars to my electronica songs!

I would strongly recommend trying to keep tabs on your calories for at least a little while. Get an idea of how much food you are consuming. Making cut-backs is definitely a great start, but [for me] putting a numerical value on my food intake is very helpful. Everybody has a different idea of how much food is a normal amount, but if you count calories, you have an indisputable metric. Exercise and diet are BOTH so important and I'm more of the school that diet is probably more important (but still participate in both). I've come full circle from being a fatass, to losing a ton of weight and getting a great body, then to gaining it all back and having to start over (where I am now) and it was all because of my shitty diet and lack of portion control. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips! I will definitely keep in mind tracking my calories and portions. I have a Droid phone, I'm sure there is some kind of app that will help me keep track of it all easier!

That's awesome you're into Reason and all of that! I really love recording. I just installed a Linux OS on my computer. It runs so much faster and there are so many great quality programs for recording, editing and creating music ..and theyre all free!

Hey I just got an HTC Evo Android phone, if you find an app for calorie counting, let me know. Right now, I just use a google doc spreadsheet to keep tabs (which is almost impossible to edit from my phone).

Wow, Linux! Not ready to make that dive yet. Seems mysterious.

I have an iPhone and got the "Lose It" app, it's awesome. Not sure if they have it for your phone(s) but it's worth a try, it is really great.

Kudos on giving up all soda, I think that would crush me!
Best of luck to you; if some days find you lacking motivation or a push, drop by this site -- everyone I've met here is supportive, inspiring, and all-around amazing.

Thanks for all the replies! I'm not sure as far as a droid app that counts calories. I did start using this cardio app that tells you how many miles you run/jog/bike and how many calories you burn doing so and you can save a map of your exact route and time, etc with the gps settings. It's very cool!

As far as Linux goes, I was scared too! But I couldn't handle Windows anymore. It seemed like every day it got slower and slower and more crap was coming up on my computer. So I just said forget it and looked for the most user friendly distro of Linux (because there are thousands). I found out that Ubuntu is probably the most popular and user friendly. Install was super easy, and for the most part everything works just like it would on windows. I just use free versions of all my old windows programs, which half of the time work even better. It also runs so much faster than windows did!
