Hi there! My name is Tiffany, and I'm a 23 y/o female from Eastern Canada. I searched out a weight loss forum on Google after realizing today that I don't really have anyone in my life who is attempting to lose weight-- I think support is paramount, and so here I am!
I'm 5'2, and my highest weight was around 211 lbs. I managed to lose (and keep off) about 10lbs during my one-month stint with Weight Watchers, but stopped attending the meetings for reasons which I will discuss in another thread. After that, I joined a gym, and a while after joining, I started going.
Honestly, they say that showing up is 50% of the battle, but I think it's more like 80%. We all have those days where it's the last thing we want to do, and those days are remarkably frequent with me! In bullet-form, here are a few things that have really helped me along the way:
I think the most important challenge that I've overcome was feeling out-of-place at the gym. A few weeks ago I started thinking, "You may be the biggest person in here, but you're the biggest person at the gym, not the biggest person standing in line at McDonald's." And this is so true! We're all a beginner at some point, and it really is worthwhile to stick out those initial feelings of awkwardness.
I look forward to hearing all about you guys!

- Personally, I'm not a fan of dieting. I don't believe it's human nature to be successful with restricting, and I am much more about making healthier choices *most of the time* and watching my portions the rest of the time.
- On that note, I've always had the bad habit of NEEDING to read while I ate. Usually it would be a new magazine or an interesting website, and lots of mindless snacking. It got so bad that if I was in a restaurant, I'd ask for a menu to look at while I ate! To modify that, I now allow myself to read magazines only while on the treadmill. I still snack in front of my computer, but a small change is still a change, right?
- I was never one for physical activity, and so working out was really a challenge. 10 minutes on the treadmill at 85-90% of my max heartrate would leave me exhausted and ready to go home! To work on that, I started doing 60 mins of leisurely walking on the treadmill. My heartrate would still be in the fat-burning / intermediate aerobic range, and really, that's the goal. And again with the magazines! 60 minutes is nothing when you're catching up on Brad & Ang.
- On that note, 20 minutes 3x per day is still 60 minutes, and that sure beats not doing anything at all!
