Hello Folks!

I'm an old guy who has made the decision to change my lifestyle before it's too late. As I see people my age, some much younger, gain huge amounts of fat, are totally unfit to even climb stairs, I've decided, I don't want any part of it.

So, I've decided to join like minded people that are familiar with lifestyle changes and know what it takes to lose fat.

Welcome to the forum.

So Knotty - how old do you consider an old guy is...

I hope that you are not going to tell me that being in your 50s is old... I consider it the prime of life... and very youthful... just old enough to not be classed as immature really...

Hi Omega, thanks for the welcome. I'll be 69 this year, 5'-7". Started January 25, 2013 at 190 pounds, have lost 25 lbs. so far with a goal of being 135 or less (my high school weight)

The highest I've been was 240 in 1997 but managed to drop 50 pounds and kept it off. But still have a long ways to go.

Its great to have you here...

I had visions of you telling me that I am old!!!! I feel younger than I did in my 30s and early 40s... I am certainly fitter than I was in my late 20s...

Well done for losing 25 pounds in the past couple of months. Also for dropping those 50 pounds back in 1997.

I will sound a word of caution about your target... You may find that 135 isnt the right weight for you when you get near it... I lost a lot of weight a few years back... Initially I thought that 119 would make a great target - but when I got within 15 to 20 pounds I got a lot of advice that it would be too low... I must admit that 126 was plenty low enough... I was getting pretty boney...

My advice is to keep an open mind and speak to people like your doctor to see whether it makes sense... Sadly young bodies are not exactly the same as an older body - and the main thing is to end the process with a healthy looking body.

Thanks for pointing that out Omega! yes, I've thought about it many times that it may be too low. I do a lot of cycling so I'll use cycling performance as a gauge of sorts, there is a point where performance starts falling off when one is reaching the essential bodyfat level. But, for now, I have a long ways to go yet, I'll be overjoyed to even come within 10-15 pounds of that weight!

One real possibility is a bunch of loose skin, oh well, I never get in swim trunks anyway...haha.

Loose skin certainly adds weight...

LOL - you may start wanting to wear swimming trunks when you see how fit you become...

I most definitely want a tummy tuck and boob job if I get half a chance (I figure that I worked so hard to lose the weight that I want the fun of wearing exactly what I want) - so you may surprise yourself with a desire to wear those swimming trunks with a vengeance...

Yes Omega, back in 1997, I did go down to 155 before I went up again and stabilized at 190. I remember gobs of loose skin on the tummy, I kept saying I wish I could take scissors and cut it off! Been watching a tummy tucks on Youtube, interesting procedure.

Well, on each bike ride, I wear full Lycra so I guess that's next to swim trunks. It'll be so nice to go clothes shopping for smaller sizes.

There is so much more choice for clothes in the smaller sizes...
I certainly am keen to get back to my goal weight myself...
