Hello, first day here.

Congratulations on making the change!

I'm just a few years younger than you. A lot of people will tell you that you should expect to gain weight as you get older. But I didn't buy that, and have found a combination of factors which are helping me lose the weight I'd gained in my early 40s.

You can be successful, as long as you stick to a good diet plan. And don't worry too much about not being able to exercise. Barring a medical condition that inhibits weight loss through diet alone, most experts suggest standard weight loss is something like 80% diet and 20% exercise. So, it is entirely possible to lose weight through eating a healthy, lower calorie diet. It just might be a bit faster with exercise. But fast isn't always the best, or even desirable.

Good luck, and welcome to the forum. :)

Agreed, Jody. Well said :)

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is probably the hardest thing about starting this process. At first, it's rather daunting to think that this is something you'll be doing for the rest of your life because there will be difficult moments more often than not, but it does get easier as time goes on. You begin to adjust and adapt to it and, soon enough, you start to miss it if you're unable to keep up with it because of circumstances beyond your control (sickness, injury, etc.).

It will eventually become part of your everyday routine :) Everyone is different of course, so it may take longer for you to reach that point than others. From my own personal experience, the important thing above anything else is to just keep going. Gather knowledge, customize your own specific routine, use trial and error to see what works, then when you discover a good regimen that balances with your responsibilities in life, stick to it! :)

Good luck to you!
