So, I'm new, as you could probably tell. I'm fourteen (two months away from being 15!) a girl, and I weigh about 145 pounds. I say about because that's what I weighed last time I went to the doctor. My house doesn't have a scale, well, we do, but it's in my parent's room. I am going to work up the courage to talk to my mom one of these days and ask her to get it out. Weighing 145 really scared me, I didn't notice any physical change in myself, or it happened so gradually I just didn't notice. It shook me up really bad because I had gained 20+ pounds and I wasn't skinny to begin with.

This summer I hope to shed at least the 20 pounds I gained, and over time with my changed eating habits and exercise plan I'll have a body I actually like.

Welcome. How tall are you? It's hard to know where you are at without knowing how tall you are. Are you still growing? Could be that some of the weight is just building up for a growth spurt. I've had friends that didn't start really growing until 16 and kept going till 18 / 19.

Shedding 20 lbs over the summer is a lot and might not be able to accomplish safely. 1 lb / week is a healthy / attainable goal. You don't weight that much, regardless of how tall you are, so you won't be shedding weight that quickly.

Are you doing any physical activity? How often? Since you are living at home, having a discussion with your parents is a great place to start. Explain your concern and talk about simply reducing your meal sizes or types of foods on your plate. Are you parents happy with their weight?
