Hello everybody! I'm new and need support! lol

I decided to join a website like this in the hopes that I would find the support online that I do not particularly find in real life. I am a 27 year old woman who has always struggled with her weight. In the last few years, I have let my habits get out of control and this has lead to a MASSIVE weight gain. At my highest weight, I was about 240 lbs. (I am 5' 8"). I made a decision to change my life; I moved to a new city in a sunnier climate, have a new job, and I'm looking forward to meeting new people... maybe even that special someone? But I feel like the weight is really holding me back, so I have begun working out and eating well. I have already lost 18 lbs in 1.5 months, and nobody in my home or at my work has noticed. It is disheartening but it also encourages me to keep working and to work harder to achieve noticeable results! So that is my life story, haha. Thanks for listening. Nice to meet you all, and I guess I will see you guys on the boards :blush5:

Welcome to the forum and let me congratulate you for losing a fair amount of weight in less than two months. That's an accomplishment that only a fraction of people who try to lose weight have achieved naturally. Pat yourself on the back for that.

It's understandable that people have not noticed your weight loss quite yet because the results are usually visible under your cloths in the beginning. Especially if you wear loose fitting cloths. Don't let it bother you, people will begin to notice as you move down the path to your ideal weight. If you made use of the before+after section here, I am 100% sure people will tell you that they notice a difference.

At the moment, if you are still losing weight, don't make any dramatic changes to your routine. Eating healthy, losing weight and exercising are the big 3 for fitness (when you're on the heavier side). If you share your exercise and eating habits, some people here might give you a few good tips.

Good luck and keep it up.

Welcome welcome!
Good job! I'm new too so we can loose together :) Dont be discouraged, any loss is a accomplishment.
Also congrats on the new lifestyle! Wish you all the best :)

Congrats on the loss! I've been at this six weeks and I've yet to actually see any results (including any changes in my numbers). On the other end of the spectrum from you though, I have had a few people tell me that they can see a change in my figure. I don't yet, but it does help when others notice it. So I know how you feel about the lack of notice. Don't let it get you down though, you know you're doing better, and for now that's all that matters. Keep up the good work!

congrats on your work so far! i just joined also. i've lost 5lbs in a few weeks but still have 79 to go lol. hope we can support eachother!! good luck!

Prodigy - Thank you for your words and suggestions - I think the before and after section sounds like a lot of fun! I'll take some pics soon and put them up there

HHackney - Thank you and congrats on your noticable change :) I think that there are 2 reasons people haven't noticed the loss on me. A) Because I am so big in the first place it's just hard to see any changes and B) I wear scrubs to work and they definitely have a way of hiding one's figure. They are getting looser on me though, thats for sure! I'm always pulling my pants up lately lol.

cjer - Thanks, and definitely! Holler at me anytime, I love hearing about everybodys progress!

Tamii - Thank you and congrats on your 5 lbs! That is a beautiful step in the right direction! I know how it feels to have more than 50 lbs to lose - it seems daunting... but it will happen before you know it!!

Hey!

Congrats on the weight loss so far, I just started my journey too (and have yet to figure out how to have one of those weight ticker things at the bottom!) and I'm jealous your already 18 pounds up!! That's amazing! And in 1.5 months, that's defintely motivating. What have you been doing diet and exercise wise (I'm also 5'8 so I'm curious to see what your doing to get those results :D )
And I totally know what you mean about the 'feel like the weight is holding you back, I just moved to a new city (new country too actually!) and I feel the same way that's why I'm trying to lose my weight as well. Keep updating your success, I'm sure I'll see you on the board! :)

hey Meece

I joined a gym, and I have been going on average about two times a week there. My routine at the gym generally involves about half an hour on the treadmill (at varying speeds and inclines... I keep my heart rate at about 180 and make sure I sweat a lot and use my muscles!)... And then I usually do about 20 minutes of weight training on the machines. Usually work the leg muscles the most (leg press, thigh squeezy machine - don't know the official names if you cant tell)... I tend to neglect other areas, I admit.

I also like to go outside and walk. I try to do that a couple of times per week too. There is a nice route I can walk to a beach near my house that is about 4 miles round trip... it is very beautiful and I think the scenery and nice weather help me forget I'm exercising, lol. I sometimes throw in sprints intermittently but I have to be careful because sometimes I can over-do it and start going into an asthma attack... but usually 30-40 second sprints are ok!

I try to get in little bits of exercise like when I'm on my breaks at work I go out to the curb and do calf raises... when I'm watching tv I do bicep curls, and things like that. It hasn't been too crazy.

As for my diet I cut out ALL fast food, started drinking lots of water, and I hardly eat meat anymore at all. I feel great!

Had another weigh in, and down even more weight as of today!! WOO HOO!!

ps! I just figured out the tracker thingy today.

Keep in mind when you're on the treadmill that you're working out your legs, particularly if you put in some incline. Doing that and doing weights for your legs might wear them out faster than you want.

Your upper and lower back would probably like the attention if you're going to be more active. Those areas tend to get stressed, especially if you're overweight.

Aim for your big core muscle groups and as you lose weight work on your smaller muscles. Your big muscles help you with the most demanding exercises like running, swimming and climbing stairs. You can neglect smaller groups like your arms until you get used to your workout regime, then start adding things.

Way to go Misskori!

It looks like what you are doing is working! So keep up the great work!

Try and work your whole body....even the parts you have been avoiding. Those muscles will love you for it too :) Start light....so those parts get comfy learning what you want them to do.
I have strong legs...so I can leg press comfortably...but I have gumby arms... and I hated doing upper body exercises like bicep/triceps/pecs and traps. It felt awkward and I didnt enjoy it. It took me a few workouts to get those muscles to wake up. Now I look forward to doing upper body. It feels good. Really good.
And I've only been at this for less than a month.

Again...congrats! Your doing awesome!

Prodigy and Flumes - Thanks for the advice. I know, I realize I should probably work more on other muscle groups... I think my abs, arms and back could use a lot of work. I've thought about doing yoga. What do you think? I guess I should probably check out fitness threads! I have yet to make my way over there yet :)

Yoga is great and is an option to consider. You can also take up an aerobics class or maybe something like boxing. Things like that can make weightloss more entertaining and perhaps you will pick up a healthy hobby which will keep you fit.

Yay, i made one of those a few days ago. Haha. That's great! You have made a lot of progress. Keep it up. Fast good is one of evil things. That was my hardest to cut out! Good job hehe.
I'm just working on walking myself. Just to get some weight off. So i can work others better. :)

Hi there! I'm a newbie to the board as well. I am also 27 and have always struggled with my weight. I lost a considerable amount of weight a few years ago workin my butt off and then let myself go once again after I maintained for a year (grrr!). BUT! I caught myself halfway in and know it IS possible to lose it again!

Anyway, just wanted to say hello and congrats on your success thus far! :)

PS- Don't let it upset you that nobody has said anything about your weight change just yet. It took me losing 50 pounds before anybody said ANYTHING to me! You should have seen their faces when I kicked off the other 90! :) It was well worth it!

wow

that is quite a weight loss, Ldub! It sounds like we're in the same boat. I have lost a lot of weight before and put it back on and then lost it again, several times. Unfortunately, before when I've lost weight I was a little younger and it didn't take all that much effort or time to get it off... this time, it seems to be more stubborn. I am having to think more about what I eat and how I exercise, and I am having to be patient and that's really hard for me! I just want it to come off NOW! I am constantly tempted to try fad diets, liquid diets, starvation and other bad things just to see the scale move faster, but I know that if I do any of that I'm going to lose the weight, but slip back into my old bad habits sooner or later. I am trying to really teach myself this time, how to live a healthy lifestyle for the rest of my life, so that I'm not constantly on a rollercoaster of ups and downs, "good behavior" periods followed by the self-justified, "I've earned this" binging... I am tired of yo-yoing. I don't know why I am so inclined to binge eating... I just looove to eat so much... it is really hard for me not to over-do it!!

Congrats on your weight loss. I understand where you are coming from. I wish you all the best. Whatever you do, keep moving :hurray:

Ladies and gents. Please think about it logically! Weight loss is NOT a sprint....it's a damn hard marathon! Hey, it takes a long time to put on and, unfortunately, considerably longer to take off! First thing you MUST do is understand how your metabolism works and keep it fired up! I always recommend my clients eat 6 (yes 6!) times a day. Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack. The calorie content is very much dependant upon the individuals current intake and needs but generally I look to decrease their calories by 500 per day initially for the first month then go from there.
You guys and girls are incredibly inspirational and deserve a whole lot of credit. Please use my maxim,......1) stay focused, 2) never forget your motivation and 3) ENJOY WHAT YOU DO!
Best wishes......Dave

Update: Not sure if anyone will even read this now since it's been a while, but in case someone stumbles upon this, I would like them to know that the hard work has begun to pay off - people are starting to notice and comment on my weight loss as I'm nearing 30 lbs lost. I have been working very hard to accomplish this, and although improvement is slow-going I would encourage anyone out there who feels that what they are doing is not having any noticeable effect, to hang in there!! Slow and steady eventually DOES win the race! I still have a long way to go, but it is very encouraging to see changes in my body that I have not seen in years, even if it took me 4 months just to get to this point. Not to mention, I feel about 100 times more confident and healthy, and workouts are getting easier finally. I feel stronger at work. And I don't have to debate it in my head for 20 minutes before working out (the whole, "I don't feel like it" vs "do it anyway" angel/devil internal monologue has always been a problem for me) Thank you all who posted for your great advice. I really appreciate you all!
