Hello all

Hi ... o/

Normally don't hit up the new member section; just troll the different threads and kinda sit back in the wings.... But I am really giving it a go to lose the weight I so desperatly need too and want too, and what better place to start than by saying Hi! right....

My wife and I started dieting and exercising in January.. lets just say I need to lose about 100 more and I will be happy. I have lost about 35lbs so far and most of that was in the first few months. I have a membership at the Y - and was going everyday for the first 3 months we had the membership.. but to be honest I got really bored walking on the treadmill for an hour and swimming for about 30mins.... sad to say its been about a month since I have been back. I am really intimadated by the machines; I want to use the weights as I think it will help but I don't know where to start and am looking forward to finding some guidence here....

Hopefully you all will be merciful and can point me in a good direction.

Thanks

Protous ....

Congrats on your losses so far!

The treadmills absolutely kill me, I get bored so fast that i can't enjoy the workout, and I am one of those people that I need to enjoy what I'm doing or I won't do it. What you might consider is trying out a class (spin, etc). In these classes you get extra motivation from the people there and the trainers and it's all in a usually inviting group environment. Remember that everyone in those classes had a first time at some point.

Finding a workout buddy who might be a little more knowledgeable or a personal trainer if that is an option can also help, not only in keeping your workouts more interesting but in providing the motivation of having someone there to push you along and force you to go.

Also, sports can be a great way to get some cardio in. Squash is an incredible aerobic workout and is a lot of fun! The same can be said of tennis, or group sports like soccer and basketball.

Hey man, 35lbs a whole bunch of weight to lose! I'd be pretty proud of your accomplishment so far. It still sounds like you've got a ways to go, so you can't stop now.

I would strongly encourage you to add in some serious weight training to your routine. Not only will it cure some of your boredom, but longer-term, it's far more effective than doing all cardio in reshaping your body.

Press on dude!
