Hello all, joined up after finding the site on Google. Currently sitting at over 18 stone (I believe, I haven't weighed myself to find out) and looking to use some of the useful advice here to help me.

Welcome!

I hope you find what you're looking for here. There's a lot of friendly helpful people here and it's certainly helped me a great deal so I think it's definitely worth sticking around.

Maybe you should introduce yourself a little more? Say something about yourself (that's if you're comfortable with it).

Hi Holly, thanks for the welcome!

Well, I'm a 29 year old single guy, living alone and I've probably put on a stone since a 17st plateau I've had since about 2007. I dropped down to just under 15st in 2006 after doing a juice fast, but after completing it, I ended up putting the weight back on - the perils of a single guy's lifestyle.

I don't have the most active of lifestyles, although I do walk everywhere due to not owning a car - which contributes mostly to my limited exercise schedule.

I really want to get to an acceptable weight again after seeing pictures of myself recently and feeling nothing but sadness (I suppose like most people do in my situation).

I'm not juice fasting again, but I have been making efforts over the past two days to attempt more cold water (this probably only takes me up to what the minimum should be anyway) and also curbing my daily intake within necessity.

I don't know a lot about what works and what doesn't, but I'm willing to try anything for a noticeable result.

Hey well I can tell you now that weight loss doesn't have to be as painful as juice fasting. If you just start off with cutting back on portions and trying to move more, even if it's just more walking, then you're on the right track.

I know that eating less and moving more might sound boring and if you're impatient, like me, you'd rather have more loss in less time but it really is the best way to achieve long lasting success.

If you have any questions in particular I'm sure there's people ready to help out and point you in the right direction.

Thanks Holly, I appreciate it. That is my long term aim. I am consciously aware that I overeat at the moment, mostly due to self indulgence and boredom, so reducing what I eat shouldn't be taxing. But I think my short term goal is to just feel better about how I look, and if being dramatic about how much I reduce my daily intake achieves that in the next couple of weeks to begin with, I'll be happier. It's how I cope with things after that; that's the challenge!

My next question, is how do I get one of those nifty ticker signatures? :)

Don't reduce your food intake too much though, if you're too hungry you're likely to just crack eventually and over eat. You're giving yourself a much better chance if you pace yourself.

As for the ticker - click on mine and it'll take you to the website that I got mine from. It's called ticker factory. There are other sites too if you search on google :)

I prefer myfitnesspal. You can create your own custom ticker and the site has many other tools to help you with your weight loss. I used tickerfactory for a bit and found that it was extremely unfriendly to navigate though and the links don't take you where you want to go.
