Hey, My name is Sarah. I am turning 20 in two months exactly. I weight 180 lbs and stand at 5'6". I am looking to loose at least 40 lbs to start, we'll see where I am then! ;) I recently got engaged, my fiance had back surgery almost a year ago. I spent most my time laying around taking care of him, it isn't an excuse but I gained over 10lbs. A few weeks ago I weighed 190lbs. That was too much for me. I feel down, I have depression and not feeling good about myself in cute tight shirts makes it worse.

In high school I was in -CC-> Running, -CC-> Skiing, Soccer, and Track. I was very active and worked hard but I never seemed to get lower than 175. I decided to change my life around.

Recently when I went to the doctor for a cold and weighed 190lbs. I stopped drinking pop...(Oops forgot not all your are from Minnessoooota. Soda that is). Doing that made me loose 10lbs in less than a month! I drink TONS of water, probably a few gallons a day, just because I have a habit of drinking stuff and I figure it fills me up.

Anyway, I have tried websites like SparkPeople but, it never really worked for me. I started phase two of my feeling better about myself tour. I am also getting a tattoo on Monday of a Phoenix and a banner that says Karma. The phoenix is going to represent a new beginning for me. I have tried before and failed but, hopfully with your support I can handle it. I figure giving up the pop was what I figured would be the hardest part (I drank 3-5+ cans a day....BAD)

Sorry it was lengthy but I really need to vent. My fiance thinks I'm beautiful but, I don't feel it. So I really wanna get this ball rolling. Well it's time to go workout for a bit! Looking forward to hearing from you!

Sounds like Pop/Soda was probably half your problem. Yeah i tried sparkpeople and it just didnt work for me either. I make do with fitday, though it has limitations, it does what i need.

Good luck loosing the rest of it :D

My name is dacia and I am new on this site my cat won't quite laying on my key bboard any way I am gonna loose about 30 pounds by september then maybe another 10 after that I don't have money to spend to join the gym right now any ideas? I am doing the slimfast diet I've lost almost 5 pounds in a week and a half cutting out the soda was big for me too

Gratz on your loss thus far just by having no soda- empty calories anyway. My hubby has lost and kept off about 15lbs by switching from regular soda to the "Zero" by Coke.

I took the next two steps. I went shopping and bought mostly fast meals that are healthy and I precooked meals. I made my spaghetti (which has lots of garlic and such....high in cal but its a god start) and also bought a ton of fruit to snack on instead of junk food.

The second thing I did was joined Gold's Gym today....348 Dollars later...ugh. But, its a 18 mo membership and I am really hoping it helps!

WooWoo...there YOU go.....the GYM is GOING to DO THE TRICK! ROOTING FOR YA!

I am gonna be brutallyy honest here: Personally I think slim fast and ready meals are junk! What you need (both of you) is healthy lifestyle that you can keep for the rest of your lives. If I eat only ready meals for 6 months and lose some weight (which isn't that probably, because home made food tends to have much less crap in it and it can be as low or lower in cals than the ready made ones), when I run out of money, or my tastebuds crave real food, and I go back on real food, I will gain again!

So for me that is all rubbish: what you need is to look at your diet right now. What are you eating and how many cals does it have? Probably way more than you thought. Now next step is, how can I cook food that will taste great, make me slimmer and feel better and be healthier? There is 2 gazillion recipes out there and with some common sense you can even make them up yourself.
I eat a lot of fish and veg, I love fish and veg and I don't miss pasta! Instead of bagels for breakfast I eat fruit. It took a while to get used to this but ocne it is done, you do not miss what you used to eat! You will fall in love with what you are eating because it makes you healthy and beautiful!

And the same goes for gym. Find YOUR workout. Something that is fun and that you will be able to maintain for a long time. For me it was the elliptical (I hate every other machine in the gym), I felt it was my challenge and I love it. It makes me feel better and I also swim. It is low impact, relaxing and still a full body workout.

Don't look at this as if it was a race and when you get to your goal you have won! Look at it as if it was a walk in the garden of life and you need to be happy throughout the walk. Of course you can have a weight-loss goal, but reaching it, you need to have learned about nutrition and exercise, and be able to keep working on those 2 fronts, otherwise you will go down 40 pounds and then back up 60!

OK, this is just MY opinion, and you do not have to do it my way. Nobody has to, everyone is different. I wish you luck finding your way.
