Hello...480ish pounds/34 stone newbie here O_O

Hello I'm Generic and the generic backstory applies to me - fat through childhood, lost some weight and then put x4 the amount back on. I decided to lose weight due to multiple reasons, one of the main reasons is because of my Aunty is losing weight and is flying to China later this year and that inspired me, because i'd love to travel and being the weight I am, it would be next to impossible and embarrasing. I joined Slimming world on the monday just gone and already regret it (some of the bullsh!t they say) plus it's all women and not a single man, which makes me feel uncomfortable being the size I am but anyway it has given me some motivation to lose weight, having to go each week kind of movtivates me to keep away from fatty food (chocolate/crisps etc)

I have a question, hopefully someone can answer it- I'm 480ish pounds (34 stone) and i'm 6"4 before I changed my eating habits I was probably on 5000-6000 cals, now i'm on 1500-2000 (I never feel hungry) and I was wondering how much I will be losing a week? I do 20 minute walks each day and go up and down the stairs a lot.

Also does anyone know a good excerise for people with joint problems/back problems? walking is fine for 15-20mins but after that the pain intensifies.

Thanks!

First off, congratulations and props to you for making the decision and TAKING ACTION! That is half the fight right there. Is slimming world like a Euro version of Weight Watchers? Anywhere you can get support is ok by me and as to the ladies, they are more likely to be encouraging in pointing out progress than many guys are. If you have any desire to preserve muscle mass, you really do not want to push for more than 2-3lbs a week, but you may see some huge loses in the first few weeks as your body begins to let go of retained water (also, be sure o drink plenty of water.)

Your joint issues will improve as your weight decreases. Heard a stat once from the Arthritis foundation that 1lb lost =4lbs off pressure off of your knees. I would also see your Doctor and get a check up, telling him you intend upon starting/doing excercise and see if it is ok to start some light resistance training. I just started with 2-3 sets of about 8 reps/body part when I first got going. If I recall correctly, full body routines 3x/wk is the way to go for weight loss and newer lifters.

Anyways, best of luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for the reply, i'm not sure on Slimming worlds roots but i'd say you're right, it is just a euro version of Weight watchers.

I want to tone up my arms as much as I can, I wouldn't mind musclar arms but the only excerise I know is a bicep curl^^ I'll have to google some excerises I can do.

No trouble at all. The back of the arm is a 3 head muscle group known as the Triceps. Anything that involves pushing with your arms will work these including DB Extensions, Triceps pushdown, and close grip bench.
