Hello, I am 16 years old and 19 stone 12 pounds.. I have always been the subject of bullying and I have always been bigger then everyone else, in tallness and weight, I really started packing on the pounds when I reached 15 and refused to walk the streets and get onto drugs and beer like all the other trashy teenagers in my town.. I become depressed due to lack of friends and lost control. However last week I totally set my mind to starting a diet, I started my diet at 20 stone 9 pounds, now I'm 19 stone 12 pounds 1 week later! I have been on a low calorie diet, however Im really worried when I come off it I will put the weight back on, I already eat healthy and I have not been tempted all week to even snack once, so all is good! I have come here to meet new people, hopefully get some extra support online "my family are great support though" And to learn the best way to diet.

My goal is 13 stone, and Im starting the gym soon too, so I'll hopefully be toning up the skin! And replacing some fat for muscle!
:nopity::nopity: Life story over LOL.

Me when I started..

Welcome to the site

That's a huge red flag - that says you're not thinking about a lifestyle change -and at 16 changing your lifestyle isn't a bad thing - but you're thinking more towards diet mindset...

there shold be nothing you coe off of - you should be eating and exercising this way for the rest of your life so do make sure your plan is one you can stick with.

Spend some quality time with the stickied threads in exercise and nutrition and ask questions..

enjoy your stay and much success getting to wheere you want to be

oh yeah and you've got a great face - stand up straight :)

Thank you, yea I have been pretty worried trying to get into this diet, Im pretty much starving myself right now, on soup.. I have only eaten soup for a week, I am extreamly weak and my family won't get off my back.. I really want a change of lifestyle, I don't want to be the fat kid, or the guy who has to order his clothes online.. I want to look good and feel good.. I won't ever go back to eating as I did,EVER! I really enjoy this healthy eating, I feel far better after a salad then a bar of chocolate, infact all I get from chocolate is fat, tooth ache, and feeling dizzy, same with sweets and all the other junk I used to eat..

I really do want to live a healthy happy, life.

Weak isn't a good way to be feeling... your diet should give you energy and to lose weight, you don't have to turn into a rabbit eating carrots and lettuce all day long.. you can have real food -it's a matter of watching portions... (keeps the family off your back too :)

Get yourself an account at or one of the 100s of other food diary sites ( is geared towards your age group so that might be a help too)

and CHeck the stickied threads in nutrtion - for guidelines on how many calories you should be having... don't shoot too lowfor calories -makes it more diffcult to adjust long term...

:iagree:

totally agree with Mal. Diets are temporary. Permanent weightloss takes more time in most cases, but will/should last you the rest of your life . . and at 16, thats a Long time! You are growing and need to eat healthy- your food choices now can effect how healthy your body will be in the future.

And kudos to you for not hangin out with the bad crowd. It seems hard now for you, but you are worth it and totally smart for taking care of YOU!

Hi Magik, nice to meet you :)

You need to find an easy to maintain diet that won't leave you weak. Just sticking to the soup may work in the short term, but when you start to eat normally again the weight will just go back on :(

Also, by denying yourself like this, you'll start to crave all the foods you aren't eating, and if you're just eating soup then that's a lot of foods.

hello there, i saw ur post and registered on this site just to reply :)
when i was 16 i weighed 18 stone, i hated it, luckly for me i was tall (6"5) and could hide it well. but i kept getting more and more fed up with the way i was so i decided to change it. i need to tell you that your new lifestyle change is bad. starving yourself does not do anything as it slows your matabalism and makes it harder to burn off those cals. after i decided to get proactive, i joined a gym, a local sports club and the schools rugby team. i went from 18 stone at 16 to 15 stone when i turned 17. the secret was not starving myself, quite the opposite i felt full most of the time, i had 5 meals a day instead of 3. the key is to make them small and healthy. eating smaller meals more often helps to speed up your matabolism so your body will burn off those calories faster. snack are great aswell. if i feel hungry i go munch on a carrot or an apple which actuly burn more cals than they give you in the digestion process. the best tip i can give for chosing what food to eat is looking at the carbs it contains. carb free food like chicken is one of the best ways to diet and loose weight fast.
there are more ways to shed those pounds than dieting. exercise it a key aspect in loosing weight. you could get better results from a week of exercise every night than 2 months of dieting. lifting weights also is a key aspect. many people think that cardio is what you need to do for loosing weight but you can burn more cals from weight lifting than cardio in shorter periods of time. its also a fact that lifting weights on a selection of muscles around your body can increase your matabalism by up to 15%. my advise to you would be to join a sports team. not only will you exercise more, but you will have fun and motivation with your team whilst doing it.

i hope all that makes sense, im not that good at english lol, keep us all posted on what happens :)

Hi, I know what your going through i am slightly older than you though..I'm 17 but I suffer from PCOS aswell and i know how hard it can be to lose weight but im doing it. It sounds simple but try slimfast, have a shake in the morning one for lunch then have a 600 calorie meal for dinner. They offer snacks but i wouldnt eat them and just walk around more and be more active, i weighed more than you and iv lost 2 stone in 2 months from just doing this, and i even came off the diet for 2 weeks and because i got used to not eating alot i still lost weight even though i was eating proper meals. try it good luck x

For those people posting with PCOS - it is perfectly possible to lose a lot of weight while eating normal food. I spent over 20 years in severe morbid obesity until I realised how... My start weight was 21 stone and at 5ft3 - that is pretty chunky and I managed to bring my weight down to 9 stone.

The best posting on losing weight with PCOS that I have seen here is the following. Much of it agrees with the situation that I had already deduced by the time that it was first posted...

I suffer from PCOS but still reached my weight loss goal last year. Here are my "Top 10 Tips" to help you in 2008.

Health club memberships will be at an all-time high. The promotional flyer I got from the local gym in the mail today went straight into the trash. I am vowing never to pay another year of “fat tax,” those fifty-plus dollars a month many of us agree to pay for a one-year membership that most will probably use for a few weeks. Of course, I believe in exercise as part of any weight-loss program, but it doesn’t require a gym or any expensive torture contraptions.

I’m sure sign-ups on ediets.com will soar. I’ve tried most of the more popular diets they offer: Atkins, Slim-Fast Optima, etc. -- the results never went beyond losing five or so pounds. Atkins is just so hard! And I consider a Slim-Fast shake desert, not a meal! But after years of trial and error and much reading on the subject, I have at last found a healthy, balanced diet that doesn’t require any special shakes or the banishing of carbs.

I also tried numerous supplements. Hoodia, which I took religiously for four weeks, had absolutely no impact on curbing my appetite, along with a few others containing stimulants that made me feel like I was having a heart attack. But don’t get me wrong; I do feel that the RIGHT supplements can have a dramatic impact on weight loss.

I believe the underlying cause of PCOS is insulin resistance. And I believe this because as soon as I started to treat my insulin resistance. I saw a dramatic improvement in my skin and in my hair: less acne, more hair. And I also reached my weight loss goal of losing 45 pounds over the course of last year. I am 5’9” and now weigh a healthy 150 pounds.

Because of insulin resistance, many women with PCOS have a much harder time losing weight. Here is why: Insulin is the hormone responsible for allowing glucose, or blood sugar, to be absorbed by the cells of the body, where it is converted to energy. If you are insulin resistant, your cells react sluggishly to insulin. When you eat a meal -- whether it's steak, fish or vegetables -- the body breaks it down into glucose, a usable energy form. When you are insulin resistant, extra glucose remains in the blood stream, until it is finally sent to the liver and converted to excess body fat.

These are my Top 10 Tips to Weight Loss with PCOS.

1.
Gradually cut down on refined carbohydrates (white bread, white rice, white pasta and most sweets) and replace them with healthy sources of carbohydrates (whole grain bread, brown rice and whole wheat pasta). Refined carbs have been processed so that most of the fiber and nutrients are stripped away. This causes the body to quickly convert them into glucose. Whole grains still contain the fiber that will allow your body to digest the food more slowly, keeping you blood sugar levels from spiking and help to correct insulin resistance. I found that I was able to lose weight by eating roughly 70 grams of healthy carbohydrates per day.

2. Avoid all hydrogenated fats. Look at labels. If the product contains ingredients like hydrogenated vegetable oil, don’t buy it. Look for products that are free of hydrogenated oils and trans fat.

3. Moderate your intake of saturated fats. Saturated fat can mostly be found in animal products like: bacon, red meat and cheese.

4.
Incorporate healthy fats into your diet: instead of cooking with vegetable oil use olive oil. Add nuts and avocados into your salad. They are excellent sources of Omega-3, the heart-healthy fat.

5.
Have lean protein at every meal. This will help to control glucose spikes. Servings should be 3-4 oz, about the size of a deck of cards. Try turkey, poultry, veggie burgers, and lean cuts of pork and beef.

6. Avoid starchy vegetables like carrots, beets, corn and potatoes. They naturally contain higher amounts of sugar that can cause glucose levels to rise. Opt for vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus and zucchini, which are low in sugar and high in fiber.

7.
Buy whole foods. This means if it comes in a box, it’s probably not good for you. Prepackaged food is full of preservatives, chemicals and sodium which can actually make PCOS symptoms worse.

8. Start an exercise program you can stick with. I began with walking 10 minutes a day, 3 days per week. Now I have worked my way up to jogging for 30 minutes, 5 days per week. Find an activity you enjoy whether it’s walking, rollerblading, hiking or swimming, and gradually increase your workout session lengths and the number of days per week you do them.

9. Begin taking supplements. (Insulite Labs PCOS System offers the best combination of supplements for women with PCOS that I've found.)

10. Take it slow! Losing more than half a pound per week is too fast and you will probably just gain it back.
