Heartburn???

 Okay, so I know I have heartburn, but...I am not sure if heartburn is causing this:

Sometimes when I am eating I feel like I can breathe all of the sudden. If feels like the food just gets stuck in the pipes and won't go down. I can breathe, but i still feel a lot of pressure.

It usually helps if when this happens I get up and walk around. It usually passes, and feels like the food finally begins to travel again, and I can breathe easier.

But, very rarely have I had to go to the restroom and (i know this is gross) throw up.

Does anyone know if heartburn can cause this?

 If not does anyone know what this could be?

It scares my husband and I.
Thanks for listening.

maybe

I think you should see a GI doctor. It could be heartburn. There is also a condition known as spastic esophagus, which is not so common. Also, if you suffer from frequent heartburn, you could have erosions in your esophagus caused by the acid reflux. These erosions are like burns or scrapes - open wounds which can be irritated as you eat and might cause the symptoms you describe. There are medications to treat erosions - and it is important that you be treated if this is the case, because erosive esophagitis left untreated can turn into esophageal cancer. A GI doc can test easily to find out what is going on, and treatment is usually very effective.

(I used to run clinical trials at a GI practice right before I left to have my babies.)

Good luck!

Thanks, I really appreciate the advise. Right now I am waiting for my health insurance to kick in (new job) and then I am going to see a doctor.

I know alot about heartburn, because I used to be a vocal major at SHSU, and a lot of singers suffer from it.

thanks again!

A doctor would probably prescribe you with something like nexium. Until then, try prevacid. Its not cheap, but its the only over the counter heartburn med that actually worked for me.
