Healthy Weight

Hey guys,
This forum is awesome i must say. I have posting here for quite a long time to get information on my health and fitness and i must say the people here r great. Thanks to all. I am here with another question today LOL. I am 5'3 and i weigh about 135 Lbs. I was wandering is that a healthy weight for me or should i drop more. I also have Fat on my tummy so would weight training reduce that. I do HITT every other day and do sit ups and push ups. I want to be more toned. So should i quit concentrating on my Fat Loss and start concentrating more on weight training?

Thank you so very much. guys.

Hello. :) To answer your question, I guess it all depends really. Are you a healthy or an unhealthy 135lbs? Do you know what your body fat% is? Yes, weight training with cardio and the right nutrition will help you lose your tummy fat. I'm not an expert or anything...so maybe someone else can jump in here and give their 2 cents. i hope that helps though!!!

i agree. bodyfat % is the true measure, not bodyweight. the fat on your tummy should be your main interest, not what the scale says. ;)

resistance training should be performed always as far as i'm concerned. whatever your goal, work the muscles!! alternating days of lifting with days of cardio work can go along way. weight training strengthens your muscles and burns calories. :)

you dont mention whether your a man or woman, or what your current diet is. but if you want to lose fat you need to cut calories and increase cardio - running, swimming, or biking. or jump roping would be good as well. as people are fond of saying on the board "abs are made in the kitchen".

I agree with the others that scale weight is not important.
You can have your body fat % checked, but even that can be off by quite a bit...it is not a perfect science.
Take tape measurements and use those to judge how well you are doing.

My advice would be to keep your cardio training as you are doing, and increase your weight training to include all major muscle groups. How you decide to split your weight training is a matter of personal preference. I like a 4 day split, working each muscle group once a week...and abs 2-3x week.

Your diet is crucial for fat loss. What you eat is more important than calorie counting. Eat 5-7x day, small meals that include a protein, complex carb, and good fats. Limit cheat meals to once a week.
Keep track of everything you eat for awhile. Fitday.com is a good place to record your meals for the day, and it will breakdown your calories and macronutrients for you. When I am maintaining, I like to keep my ratios at around P40/C40/F20.

Good luck! :)

last year i searched out a pair of pants or shorts that didnt fit me. i found one i couldnt even suck my stomach in to button.

now i can wear them. still a little tight but i'm getting there. plus cloth tape measure shows that i havent lost any size off my biceps and calves. so i'm losing bodyfat plus hanging on to the muscle i have, not much muscle but hey, what do you want :D

Thank you all for all these great advices. Yeah diet does count a lot. I mainly have a clean diet. I eat mainly cereal in my breakfast and then eat chicken, tuna, beans, fruit etc for the rest of my meals. I try to devide them so that i can get 5 meals a day. But i have to admit i feel like starving most of the times haha. I am a university student and i dorm so it is quite difficult for me to get a clean diet because of all these junk food they give ahhhhhhh...... I currently wear a 30 waist jeans so i think i am not that bad hahaha :)

So weight training is essential got it LOL. So what do you guys advice i should start with. Can someone give me a starter advice on what kinda weights i should try n stuff LOL. Sorry i m new to this stuff haha but when i see ppl so toned up it gives me so much motivation LOL. By the way how much time does it take for a person like me who is 21 years old and is 5'3 and weighs about 135 Lbs to get toned up LOL. sorry dumb question but had to ask. and yeah how do u find the body fat%. LOL

Wow sorry so many questions haha. Okie dokie thanks everyone for ur help.

:)

i always suggest to avoid "frankenstein" bodypart training and concentate on training your whole body by dividing into upper body/lower body or pushing exercises/pulling exercises or go full body.

basic exercises include squats, deadlifts, presses, rows, etc. start out by learning how to perform them correctly. go thru the movements with an empty bar or light dumbells or even a broomstick. feel the movement in the muscles and gain good form.

start out with just one set of say 6-12 reps. increase weight just a little at a time. progress slowly and consistenly :)

got it. yeah i have been cardio consistantly mainly 3-4 days a week of HITT. I have been eating kinda cleen :). I get naughty sometimes haha but yeah one thing i have done pretty good and thats cutting down on all those drinks( coke, sprite etc). I dont drink them at all now haha. I feel pretty proud of it when someone offers me a coke and i go ah i'll stick with water :). and yeah one thing how do u measure the body fat%.

Thanks guys for all these replies :)

There are a lot of different ways of testing like calipers or scales, but a quick one you can do with a tape measure can be found

Personally i think you should add some weight so you feel what your using IE muscles :D

i see got ya. well its been more than 2 weeks now since i have been running(HIIT) and i have to tell ya i can see some results. I am generally not that fat but the fat on my stomach is bothering me :). I wanna lose that fat before i start my fall semester from aug 28th :). Do u think i can make it :). and yeah one question, today i ate like a cup of red kidney beans( Caned). On the can it said 0.5 grams of fat and 1 grams of sugar per cup, and 190 CAL. I added some tomatoes, cucumber and stuff like that to it and wow it tasted so good haha. Do u think it was a good thing to eat.

Thanks guys :)
