as i close in on a healthy BMI... whether or not you buy into that scale, it is something to use as a benchmark... here is a dilemma that perhaps only an engineer with a minor in math would be concerned with...

24 / 25 is the accepted borderline between healthy / overweight BMI.

and of course BMI is a formula so there is no need to round to integer values and a BMI of, say 24.5 can easily be calculated.

so given these values (rounded to the closest ½ lb) at my height...

BMI 24.0 = 179.5 lbs.
BMI 24.5 = 183.0 lbs.
BMI 24.9 = 186.0 lbs.
BMI 25.0 = 187.0 lbs.

i could actually come up with three different arguments for 179.5, 183 or 186 lbs all to be the threshold of a healthy BMI.

any other factually based opinions?

While I do believe BMI is an awful measure, here is the data your after

WHO :: Global Database on Body Mass Index

this is an archive of the data because I could not get the current stuff to load.

right from normal to pre-obese... man, that's cold!

anything under 25, so i guess just hitting 186.5 would qualify... one i didn't think of.

well, it will be a day to celebrate, but getting solidly into healthy will take a little more effort which i am willing to put in. to me it's just a number so do i believe that all of a sudden i'm going to feel different or healthier? ... of course not. it's a benchmark... a target.

thanks for the info!

I use the scale (at my sisters house) as my bench mark. I don't want to be addicted to the scales but I don't want to be afraid of it either. Don't know much about BMI however I'm very active...hiking. Therefore I choose to believe I've got a good amount of muscle; with a little fat over it especially in the stomach area. lol I think as long as a person is active they will have muscle which is what's important to me.
