Has anyone had swine flu?

I came down with a sudden case of the flu yesterday with nasty chills. A day later, I am feeling better. The symptoms for swine flu are about the same as regular flu but my county isn't even doing any testing now.

Has anyone had a documented case of swine flu?

There has been some documented cases in Kansas, (I believe) the western portion of the state, if I am not mistaken. Within the county I live, there has been no documented cases that I am aware of.

No, I haven't had any flu-like symptoms for quite sometime.

Keep an eye on your symptoms, in the event it comes an goes (regularly), and when in doubt, my dear friend, go seek a doc's advice or even get tested.

Is there a "test" for this?

Best wishes,

Chillen

Thanks Don. This swine flu stuff is problematic because there is no easy test for this. I believe only the CDC in the US can verify swine flu versus the regular flu. My county is not sending anymore samples to the CDC, so I will have no way to know for sure which type of flu I have. (I have all the characteristic flu symptoms, but the symptoms for the swine flu and regular flu are the same).

The CDC only lists 44,000 known US cases (presumably cases where their tests came back positive for swine flu), but they estimate there have been 1,000,000 cases in the US and they predict 40% of the US population will be affected by the end of the year.

If I do have the swine flu and this is the worst that happens to me and the vast majority of people with no underlying health issues (respiratory, weak immune system, HIV positive, etc.), life will go on.

I'm pretty sure most industrialized countries can test for the swine flu.. I don't think Norwegians are sending their blood work to the US.

I have not had it but had a confirmed paitent die from it recently. They told all of us that were exposed to see a doctor immediately if we had flu symptoms with a fever that persisted. They told us that if we had no underlying conditions, as you mentioned, even if we were to get swine flu, chances are we would get through it without any lasting effects. Hope that helped a bit. Definately check out the CDC website, its very informative.

My gf's brother had it, and i've heard of many others who have in my area.

I don't see the big deal, its just like regular flu.

Hey Todd,

this is no different than any flu I have had in the past, so either I don't have the swine flu or it just isn't as bad as they thought it would be. I think the latter is true.

I noticed my run on Monday night was weak, even considering my long layoff because of the shin splint issue, then the next morning at the gym I was only able to do squats and dumbbell bench before I was totally fatigued. An hour later, I was in bed shivering. I spent most of Tuesday and half of Wednesday with chills. I am hoping I can start re-enjoying life today.

Thanks for asking:)

nope haven't had that flu.....thank god and knock on wood! hope you'll be feeling better soon.

considering like .0001% of the population got it, I doubt you'll find anyone here with it

Health officials would be ecstatic if your data were correct. The latest number I read in the US was 1 million out of 300 million (.3%). But, the US CDC predicts that up to 40% of the US population could be afflicted this year and next.

The World Health Organization predicts that 2 billion people will be affected within the next two years.

My GFs niece just got diagnosed with it and myself and much of her family are reporting the same symptoms...so yes, I probably have it.

I must be the only person not all butt-hurt over swine flu.

doesn't seem to be killing more people than the old influenza-A that we've had for decades.
feels more like media fear-mongering tactics to give us something to worry about and distract from the economy.

don't know anyone who's had the pork fever. only one nebraska death and it as a 66 year old obese woman with emphysema
