Harder to get a six pack in winter

I was told again by Tim_14 that in winter your body gets cold and holds onto fat more so its harder to have defined abs in winter. Is this true or is it a load of crap?

imo, I don't think so. It all depends on you, most people think winter time is the best time to bulk though, because most people rarely take off their shirts at that time hahah

Definition of the abdominals is based on body fat % < 10 %

:p Well, when i said what i said, i was refering to my own experience. In the summer i can easily lose fat that i gain in like 3 days, but in winter, it takes like 2 weeks.

you were wise to ask for a second opinion.

but do keep in mind that no one here has all the right answers, especially as research changes existing dogmas in training.

10 years ago - pyramid pyramid pyramid
now - 5x5 every day!

i think there might be something to this, for example if you swim a lot in cold water you will start to want fatty food, this is because the body wants to build up a protective layer around your body perhaps its the same mechanism in work??

Well, when i said it was from my own personal experience, i meant it. I have low bf and i get cold REALLY EASY, so when im cold my body will try to hang onto my fat so it can keep me warm, and because i am at school most of the time i dont have a heater i can sit infront of, so im cold most of the day. But, when in summer/spring and its warmer and im not cold, my body doesnt have any problem getting rid of the fat, coz i dont need it.

When in winter, someone who is bigger will still lose fat steadily if thats what they are doing, because the fat they have is keeping them warm. Ever wonder why bigger people don't feel the cold as much?

I rest my case

that is why you wear a sweater/jacket :p

but i agree :] and yes to Malkore, its interestin to get second opinions lolz

Ermmmm no. Take a bear for example, there body doesn't store more fat because of the tempurature, they just know that they need it, so they up their calories. We all know too calories = bf % raise. So they just eat none stop.

I don't think that it's true that skinny people get colder and fat people can stay warm easier. If anyone has some scientific proof, please share.

Yes brown adipose tissue (BAT) is a heat insulator, unlike white adipose tissue (WAT). But that subject on adipose tissue still confuses me...

Fat is an insulator. It keeps heat in. Look up, "Functions of adipose tissue".

I knew fat was an insulator, but my post was referring to the fact that I know plenty of skinny people who can stay warm easily, as well as fat people who can get cold easily. Maybe it depends on other things, too, I'm not expert.

i dont think the body stores more fat just because its cold.
naturaly in winter time you would shiver more burn more cals,so you would need to eat more, and therfore maybe gain more fat,so its probably a case of just eating more in the winter.as are most weight problems.

I think it's more the sheer lack of activity that causes people to gain weight during the winter. But you are right about the holidays.. around christmas time I probably eat about 7000 cals per day :)
