Happy Hour Help

OK, could use some quick tips, suggestions, etc.

As a single girl with a social life, I get asked to do happy hours, gallery openings and the temptation of knowing waaaaay too many bartenders doesn't make avoiding these situations any easier. Does anyone what drinks have the lowest caloric value if I am to partake? As a wine fanatic, I'm not sure I can completely abstain but I'd like to be able to plan for it accordingly in my calorie counting. I'm sure drinking has really helped get me here but I'm struggling giving it up entirely.

Thoughts? I have something I have to go tonight as well. Help!

wine is a good option.. a 5 ounce pour of white is just under 100 calories, a 5 ounce pour of red is just slightly over 100.. fortified wines are kind bad news... :( and not all places stick to a 5 ounce pour so adjust accordingly.

I'd suggest a spritzer, but if you appreciate wine, that might be insulting.. :D kills a perfectly good wine... but club soda as an accompanyment or every other drink should keep you out of trouble.

I find that wine i'm ok drinking, beer i can't drink because i can't drink just one, and once i've had several - i'm not drunk, but normally pretty gross looking foods, all of a sudden look appealing...

straight vodka would probably be your best bet :D

I know how you feel, I have the same problem. BUT, the more I stay away from it the faster I lose...so I try to stay away more and more.

eh.. 100 proof vodka has 125 calories (give or take) in a 1 1/2 ounce pour - and rarely does a bartender stick to that -- especially when they know you... the plus side to vodka is it can be sipped.. and make it last a while..

Ohh... i didn't know that. I normally stick to Vodka and Diet coke as it seemed the 'healthest' option on the bar.

My favourite is Malibu and Diet coke... but i can't have too many of them. Due to the sweetness in it im guessing there are loads of calories in them.

I always either do Barcardi and Diet or Vodka and cranberry jucie. I would go easy on the Vodka and cranberry though. I'm not sure how good cranberry juice is for you.

some cranberry juice is really good for you -- especially urinary tract health.. if you've ever had an UTI, you can appreciate the wodner that is cranberry juice.. however. it should be the unsweetened variety - the cocktail variety (ocean spray) is a lot of sugar.

honestly- i'd say drink what you enjoy - but in moderation - and every o ther drink go for club soda or water...

wine is one of the best options - you can sip it and enjoy and it is fairly low on calories... the problem with liquors is that usually you do mix them, and while juices are good for you, they have a lot of calories... so a vodka/cran would have at least 200 calories.

I would say start with a glass of wine, have a water, and then if you feel like it another glass of wine.... adding the water will help slow you down, but you still get to enjoy yourself =)
