i'v been doing these for around 8 weeks now. i'v always done 3 sets of 8-12. i only made a progress of being able to do 2 more reps. during the third set, i can only do 8 and im not getting any better at them : (. why cant i get better at these?
Hanging leg raises: (possibly change to jack knives, hanging knee raises, leg raises etc)
You need:
Strong shoulder/thoracic girdle
Stable pelvic area
Strong Abs
Are you using straps?
Are you swinging or stable?
Are your knees bending as you bring your legs up or are you able to keep your legs straight?
Is your back arched or straight?
Assuming the weak link is your abs and/or iliac/psoas (these are the muscles that go from your lower abs/hips to your thigh and act to raise it) muscles, then try:
1. do as many as you can with straight legs, then switch to single leg or knee ups.
2. do as many as you can and then without rest go to the incline situp board and do as many situp as you can.
I like to do hanging leg raises immediately after deadlifts for a final extra stress of both the grip and abs.
