hairloss and weightlifting..

does heavy-lifting/weight-training contribute to hair loss? is it possible? as a young person, you're warned not to lift heavy objects because the physical exertion can stunt growth.. can a routine that involves similar but higher levels of physical stress cause hair to fall out more quickly than would otherwise be the case as we age?

i also ask because it seems that many weightlifters have that in common; that they have thinning/receding hairlines... at least at the gym i go to.

Thin and receding hair is not caused by lifting weights, it is caused, in this case, by steroid use. (You would probably be surprised at how common steroid use actualy is.) In fact it is quite the opposite, lifting weights triggers the release of testosterone and growth hormone, which in turn triggers the release of follicle stimulating hormones.

The stunted growth comes from increased pressure on the epiphyseal plates, restricting bone growth. This is why youths are encouraged to train with body weight.
