Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I just want to start a thread on a condition that is increasing among men.
What is recommended if you have them and want to get rid of them is surgery.
Now, my curiosity brought up the question, that if cutting your body fat can reveal your six pack, why is it different with the chest area(specifically around the nipples?) I know its something with the mammary glands, but I do not fully understand it. What's your opinion?

True gyno is much rarer than "internet expert"s would have you believe.

Want my advice? Wait until you're at a single digit body fat percentage before you start worrying about gyno or loose skin or any of that.

I could go into a rant about estrogen in our water supplies, but I'm kind of tired of myself. Everything will be okay. :D

I have a small case of it in my right nipple...just a hard lump under it that makes it apear a little bit bigger. doctor says it will go soon its just hormonal

Do not ignore it if it gets bigger or does not go away. Men can get breast cancer, although only at 1/100 the rate that women can get breast cancer.

It's a gland, tissue, that wont ever go away unless you have surgery.
Lowering your BF can decrease the size, maybe to a point where its hardly noticeable.

You need to lower your BF before you consider surgery.

Yeah, in the majority of American men with similar symptoms, it's just called obesity.

I just posted this thread to see if people had the same perspective as I did, which is lowering BF% "to a point where its hardly noticeable." I no doubt have gyno(maybe a small case of it), but I'm not about to go have surgery to get rid of it.

You "no doubt" have gyno... was that determined by a doc? You can't just look in a mirror and self diagnose something like this. There are many causes, mostly hormonal, and if you really think you have it you would be better served by addressing the issue with your physician. He may have hormone replacement/suppressive therapies that can help, or you may eventually have to go under the knife.

Actually gyno is fairly common among older boys/younger men.. But you're right, high bodyfat does yeild many false positives.

Well, to tell the truth, looking in the mirror is pretty convincing. Check out the pics in the contest thread of time. I mean, Honestly, I believe getting to a low body fat is the ONLY way to go for me. I looked up a lot of things about this issue, and I'm pretty familiar with the condition. No, I did not get it checked out by a doc/physician, mainly because I do not see this as too much of an issue. I don't want to sound like I am completely ignoring this, but until I get to a low body fat, like focus said, I will not worry about gyno. Your right illini, there are maaaaany causes for this, which is why I truly cannot determine if I have it or not. The reason I said I no doubt have this is because I have puffy nipples, and a great amount of fat around the nipple area. But then again, this is all IMO...

I have participated in many of these surgeries on men both young and old. Only one young guy was in excellent physical condition (with low body fat %) and truly needed the procedure to correct the problem. It never ceases to amaze me that people choose plastic surgery first instead of hard work to see just what their personal optimal condition would be. Maybe I just see it too much (and the complications)

Well, there are plenty of pretty treatable and sometimes serious reasons for it in older men... all the more reason to get checked out by a doc:

Yeah, that's a good link. Well, until I am over 18 with a low BF% and still have these "man boobs", then I will begin getting into the issue more. May66, what you said makes sense. Why do surgery without trying to improve yourself with exercise/diet? Thanx guys

Glad that you choose exercise/diet option first. Some of these cases are pseudo-gynecomastia condition which can be treated without surgery. Select a good cardio exercise which can help to reduce the fat from your chest.

Why had I never heard of this condition all my life, but it comes up fairly frequently on this site? Has the occurrence of it grown that much?

Hi Guys,

I’m just coming through the other side now being 2 weeks post procedure. I could write about the build-up etc,., but it would read like most of the other posts on the subject. What I thought I’d do is write a complete account from the onset at around 16 through the various coping strategies and eventual tipping point that lead to the surgery. I’m Currently undergoing physio and taking photos as I go.

You can download the first few chapters here:

And if you have feedback or questions please send them to me and I’ll include answers in the final book and also a personal reply.

All I can say now, is that I wish I’d done it sooner and it wasn’t as bad as my vasectomy ;-)
