Gweedo's Super Hero Training Log.

Well, I've started it. As all of you as my witness, I'm taking a serious stab at weight loss. I am currently 6feet tall, 240 pounds. My goal is to loose 50 pounds, bringing me down to a nice fighting weight of 190. Once I get there, I'm going to start the weight training and toning and dropping an additional 10-15 pounds.

You may ask why I called it the Super Hero Training Log... well, I'm not going to become a vigilante once I hit my target weight... but, I figure doing this will make me a little bit of a hero, at least in my own mind.

I've struggled with weight since I was a kid. I'm 23 years old now. I was always the chubby kid... topping out at 250 when I was in high school. Once I graduated, I dropped down to 180! It was nice.... and all it took was moving out of my parents house, and eating ramen noodles once a day because I was broke... well, that and a combination of hard landscaping work.

I'm still in landscaping, but I've moved up the ranks a bit... so the higher you go, the cushier the job assignment. When I used to be pounding fence posts in and push mowing hills and long stretches of median, I am now sitting on a riding lawn mower all day.

I just started running agian. I've been running on and off for the past few months. I decided to try this Couch-to-5k program someone had posted somewhere on the forums.

I did the first workout today, along with some push ups and sit ups. 45 minutes total workout time.

Well, thats all I got for now. Thanks for reading.

Congrats on the starting up the running again! I want to attempt a three mile run in August/September. Whenever it falls this year, the hospital has one every year.

I'll have to check out the couch to 5k plan! My friend let me borrow her army pocket training book for a couple days to write down their running program, but an alternate system may help, too.

I'm glad you started a journal! I'll come lurk here and there :).

See you again!

Hey Gweedo, nice to meet you. Sounds like you've got a good plan for losing. What type of stuff do you eat for your diet? I could use some ideas :), though I have a few of my own as well. Best of luck on your plan!

Well, I don't have to much of a plan for my diet. I mosty had just eaten crap. I'm going to try counting calories... stay in the 1500 range. Yesterday I had some penutbutter crackers for breakfast, some plain popcorn for lunch, and a turkey sandwich with a few saltines for dinner. I topped the night off with some more popcorn. All considered, I was probably under 1500. I didn't keep a close enough eye on it. I'm kind of just looking at stuff to eat then telling myself "Don't do it!".

Uhg. 2 days in a row of some demanding running and I'm really feeling it. I think I should take the day off of running so I can rest up. I don't want to though, cause I feel if I stop now I won't pick it back up.

I'm counting my calories pretty diligently, though. I'm up to 300 for the day and its half past noon. I've kind of made counting the calories into a game... I take a good guess on how many calories are in the food before looking at the label... if I get it within 50 calories, I'll eat it. I always shoot low though.... heh.

Anyway, I'd like to run, but I just don't think my body is up to it.... maybe I'll just do a brisk walk.

thanks for reading.

Gweedo, a brisk walk will definitely do the trick :). Just doing something will work to keep you motivated. I haven't attempted to run again for the second time yet. I'm thinking Monday. Running definitely causes me to feel it, too. And I was only able to run one out of every four blocks! You're already ahead of the game in my book!

How many calories are you doing in a day? I have three hundred at noon occasionally (usually when I get up at 11 though ;) ).

Well, I've been slacking. Its rough finding time to run for an hour each day. And if I have the time, I really want to just use it to relax. I'm still watching what I eat, so thats good... its just the exercise part thats getting me. I guess I'll just have to push myself harder, and try and make time for it.

Hey Gweedo! Nice to see you again. Do you have a timer? An egg timer, or one on your watch? Try breaking up your run in 15 min intervals. It'll make it seem a bit shorter. I actually break mine up into 6 min intervals, 5 of them. Half hour only over here, but then I spend nearly an hour anyway with warming up, cooling down, and stretching.

Just jump back in where you're at. No need to catch up because you're not behind.

See you again!

Hey Gweedo! You may be a bit low on the calories there, so dont feel bad upping them if you feel hungry. As an example, if I'm exercising I was losing on eating 1800 to 1900 (until I hit a plateau..grrr) and I'm a lot lower in weight and height. Also, its hard to feel full and satisfied if the foods you're choosing are low in nutrition, which will also make this hard to stick to. There are lots of ideas in people's diaries for healthy foods. Anyway, not to preach but just trying to be helpful. I've had to watch my weight all my life (usually a winning battle) so I'm no novice on this stuff :).
