growth

ok so this is like my third post and so far you guys have been great. i have got alot of really usefull tips from here exercises and advice and stuff so hopefully you guys can help me out on this one. i was just reading a post about powerlifting and its realation to growth (upwards) now as i was always told lifting heavy weights (as i did) stunted your growth and i am only 5,7. i have been told that thats rubbish by jason dragon (a member whom i think is pretty knowledable) but also heard that all cdnboy thinks it might be realated (another memeber who is equally knowledgable) so i know there is no real autherity on the subject but i guess i was just looking for opinions really and also if anyone knows any way to grow abit further!! haha wishfull thinking i guess but hey!! a man can dream. By the way can someone also let me know what the correct age is that a male stops growing i hearsd it was 21 but i thought it was 23.
Thanks again guys

you stop growing when your hormones tell you to, i.e. when puberty finsihes. this is different for everyone, just like girls start their period at vastly different ages.

I stopped growing at about 18.

The only way lifting weights can stunt your growth (as far a I can see) is the compression it puts on your joints, which would make you lose maybe a couple of inches over the years (just like you are shorter in the evening than in the morning, after you have been lyig down and the effects of gravity have worn off).

This is assuming you start at an appropriate age. If you lift heavy weights too young that can cause problems. Sorry, I'm no doctor so i dont know why but Ive heard a lot that lifting heavy at early ages can screw up the growing process.

i don't know anyone that was still growing after 18 ... at least not enough to really be noticeable. The rule of thumb i go by for training my ball players, is if they need to shave, they can lift weights. Not sure if this is very appropriate, but it's what I work with.

I believe weight lifting only stunts your growth if you are injured majorily. My friend was trying to get buff at the age of 13 and he wrecked his back. I think that stunted his growth. Just eat a ****load of food and you'll grow, unless your hormones make you stop growing taller.

Most my friends stopped growing after 8th grade, and the shorter ones grew and evened out all at about 5'8. Since 8th grade I have grown about 4 inches (6'4 now), and from what my doctor told me the average end of growth is 21. I actually know someone who said he grew a few inches after highschool, so you can still grow later on, but its not too common.

Everyone stops growing by the time they are 25.
