Growth of abs

This my seem a silly question.

But say for a 6 pac will the top 2 abs show up first then followed by the middle abs and then the bottom pair. Or will a 4 pac show at first or all gradually come at a time.

My top pair of abs are far more developed than the bottom pair and the middle pair are alot better than the bottom pair but not as showing or as large as the top pair.

They aren't more developed. The Rectus Abdominis is one muscle.

As you lose fat, the top two will show up easiest, because they overlap your rib cage and are therefore pushed out by bone.

Most of the time, the lower part of your abs is where the majority of your left-over body fat will remain. As you trim away the fat, they will show beter-and-better.

Work on a healthy diet. and they will come.

Don't forget to target your transverse abdominis and lower back (erector spinae) as well.

Rip can u tell us how to work out the lower back (erector spinae) and the transverse?

Plus, how can I efficiently work out my obliques? Are side bent good?...coz qhile I m doin it I dont really feel like I m workin out my abs...

cheers

deadlifts work the erector spinae, hyperextentiones also work it, but i think deadlifts are GREAT!. Transverse.. "Stomach vacuum", do a search on the forum and u will find threads with lots of links and everything you need;)

Karky is correct. Try 2-point bridges for the T.A. also.

Obliques are pretty easy to work. Try:
1. side bridges (I love these things when done correctly).
2. boxer crunches (twisting)
3. side crunches
4. dumbbell side (oblique) bends
5. twisting kicks (tai bo style)

When you do your abs, try starting with the obliques and then hit your rectus afterward.

I have heard people say they don't want big love handles, so the avoid obliques. I disagree. I HAMMER my obliques and all it has done is cut my abs more and given me a nice lower V.

Abs are a strange animal. Work them like the beast that they are!

Get in a hanging leg raise position. Bring your legs (straight) up so that you are looking at your shins only inches from your face.

Now, slowly lower your legs to the right side by twisting your torso. Move them in this fashion until you can no longer move them. Return and do for the other side.

Told you they were advanced.

oh rip.. those are hard to do:p i cant get my legs up to my face:p tried it once.. just wouldnt go up:p dunno why.. ive always had pretty strong abs:p is it strenght or something else that stops me?:p
maybe ill start doing those 3 times a week or something:p

Along with strong abs, you need strong flexors and you need to be good and flexible. If you can stand straight-legged and bend over until your face touches your knees you should be able to do them.

dont think i should do them then, when i do the stretch where you sit on floor and reach your toes.. i tend to pull a muscle in my lower back :(

Ok thanks, im very thin at the moment 17 years old about 5'6 5'7 how many months do you think it would take around to get them showing. This may be a daft questions seeing as you dont know how much or often im working my abs. But just roughly if i work them about 3 times a week.

How quickly has it taken some of the people on here that have a 6 pack

if its about to get them to show its all in the diet like LV said ;) but crunches help since they build bigger muscle there.. and strong abs is always a good thing ;)

Okay thanks

like i said i am very skinny at the moment i dont know how much skinnier i cold get lol .. so its really more about slimming down through a diet to get them to show. Ive always knew that a diet is essential for abs but i am still quite short and would say i have alot of growing to do yet. So slimming more important than trying to increase their size.

well man..If u are really slim and still dont show any abs...u dont have to become slimmer..just start workin them out and perform some multiartcular exercise as Squats..they do help the growth of your whole body....
