Grocery List?

Food that you like, most of it not processed crap. Good protein sources. Here's things I buy, although more like over a month than a week since I tend to buy my meats at CostCo and freeze for later.

Extra lean ground meat (turkey/beef/pork/whatever - 93/7)
Chicken breasts
Beef - sirloin, roast, maybe a ribeye
Frozen tilapia loin - with lemon pepper this is great
Tomatillos
Frozen diced onions
Fresh okra
Kale
Barilla Plus pasta - I like angel hair, don't eat it every week
Beans - chickpeas, black beans, great white northern
Fresh asparagus - and lots of it. The one veggie my husband will always eat.
Milk 1 or 2%
Cheese, both full fat cheddar for snacks as well as reduced fat Mexican for cooking
Greek yogurt
Cottage Cheese
No fat and reduced fat cream cheese
Great Western Bagels (high fiber, high protein, low calorie)
Acorn squash - stays good for a long time, so no worries if you don't eat it right away
Frozen fruit - good mixed in with the greek yogurt
Splenda with fiber as well as other fake sugars.
Steel cut oats / Irish oats

That sure sounds expensive, Jeanette.

I usually buy cans of Chef-Boyar-Dee, milk, coffee, diet soda, ... and the occasional hostess apple pie. I've lost about 125 lbs in the past year. It doesn't really matter what you eat as long as you don't eat very much. If you can keep your calorie intake low you'll lose weight no matter what you eat.

I won't say I do a lot of bargain shopping, although that list is way cheaper than when I was experimenting with the 'healthier' options offered at Whole Foods aka Whole Paycheck ;). And DreamerBabe asked for the 'best' not the cheapest. I could increase the amount of beans and lower the frequency of 'splurges' like sirloin or ribeye to cut costs, but other than the steaks none of these are particularly pricey items. I also sometimes buy stuff at Whole Foods which ups costs further, but I'm still under $80/week. And since I can afford them, and to me this food tastes a hell of a lot better than Chef Boyardee... :D

It's true that if you can keep calorie intake low you'll lose, but eating high fiber, high protein food tends to make it easier for most people to eat lower calories. So that's the kind of food I'm giving as examples.

Always sticking to the perimeter of the store is a good idea, so bascially vegetables, fruits and meat should make the majority of your shopping. More often then not once you start going into the middle that's where all the bad stuff is.
