GRITS - Countdown to a better life!

I posted my introduction in the Newcomes section (show me some love people!)

I here because believe surrounding myself with people who have the same goals is a plus. However, I've learned the hard way that in the end it's all
on MY shoulders. I can only really count on myself in this jorney.

Six months ago I weighed 357 lbs…..today I’m at 313 lbs. Slow and steady is all I ask for! I’ve got much work to do, but I’m actually excited about it. Getting healthy has become my priority in life. Nothing will get in my way…I won’t allow it.

I'm not too good with message boards so again...show me some love people!!!!

Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the world! :waving:

your pal,
GRITS

Thought I'd give these questions a shot! It might mak me think about some things!

-- How much weight do you want to lose? 160 lbs

-- What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight? 2-3 years

-- How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)? Life style change of healthy eating, exercise, regular medical check-ups.

-- Who or what can support you in reaching your goal?
It’s all up to ME. In the past I put my trust in people and was let down. I learned that I am responsible for ME…no one else is. I have a strong faith in God and draw strength from him daily!

-- How realistic is your goal? I think I’m on track now

-- When will you start? Already have…March 8, 2008

What is your current height and weight? 5’ 3”……312 lbs

If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be150 lbs

At what weight would you like to be at four months from now? 280 lbs

Why do you want to lose weight? Better quality of life.
Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? If so, when is that event? No

What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals?
Family. They mean well, but they are FOOD PUSHERS!

Why do you think that you now have a weight problem?
I had my thyroid removed 15 years ago and was warned by doctors that I would need to really watch my weight. While that may have contributed to my initial weight gain, realistically it’s years of living the Louisiana lifestyle of eating too much food with heavy sauces, comfort food, and of course fast food!

What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight?
Cooking for myself. Being more active daily. I have a personal trainer that has made a world of difference in my life.

Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight? Not really.

Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back? I relied on gimmick diets and they never work.

What, if anything, has not worked for you in the past in helping you to lose weight? Again, gimmick diets. I wish I had all the money back I spent on those over the years.

Why do you think it did not work? Because it was not a true life style change. It was not a healthy balanced diet.

Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time? That’s one thing I’m not very disciplined with doing.
Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook?
I do now. I live alone so cooking for one without waste can be difficult.
I grill several lbs of chicken, turkey products, 93/7 ground beef, all at one time then freeze them into single servings. Makes life easier for me.

How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go?
Now only about twice a month. Local restaurants…no chains or fast food.

What are your three favorite foods?
All fried seafood, Fried chicken, chocolate cake!
(see the problem here?)

What are your three favorite restaurants?
Mike Anderson’s Seafood, Brunets Cajun, Druscillas Seafood.
What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food?
Better choices, portion control, preparing my own food.
If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different? Honestly I can’t answer that question at this time.

Do you eat when you are not hungry?
Yes

Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)?
Yes I have. I have been clean about 2 months from my last episode.
Do you hide your food or eat in secret?
No

Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed?
No

Do you eat as a reward?
Yes

Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer?
Yes

What type of snacks do you eat?
Fruits, fiber bars, nuts, string cheese

In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing?
I strength train with a personal trainer 3 days a week and do cardio on my own 2 days a week. One hour per session

Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? Home?
Gym

What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise?
FAVORITE? You’re kidding me. I guess the three I least mind would be, ab crunchs, lateral pulldown, tricep pulldown.

What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals? I have to give this more thought, but short answer is…I just want a better quality of life. I’ve missed out on a lot of living being overweight.

Do you have rewards for certain goals?
Not really. Great idea though, guess I should. As long as it’s not food related!

Well, here I am...checking in on myself!!!
All alone....even on a message board, but that's okay, I'm use to it!

I had a great holiday weekend with no train wrecks regarding food. Weekends are so hard because I have no routine. M-F is so much easier to maintain....does that make any sense?

Anyway, I'm proud of myself and looking forward to a great week!

Hey Grits! I didn't even realize that you started a diary/journal! I'm glad you did. It's so helpful to keep track of thoughts, goals, success, even failure. It helps us to really see what needs to be worked on and what we've accomplished so far. I can't wait to go back next year and read where I was a year ago and see how far I've come! (and other journals too!) So how is your week going?

~Kristi~

P.S. YOU ARE NOT ALL ALONE!!!!!!<---- See? I threw a party for you!!

I don't check this board much. I mostly stay on the BA&I board. Great job so far on the weight you've lost! I'll try to check in here from time to time to monitor your progress. Hey... what do you know... it's the South LA bunch!

Sounds like you have a great head on your shoulders!!! Good luck, I'm rooting for you!!!!!!!

I had just about given up posting here.
Thanks to those who stopped by to offer encourgement.

I've really had about 4 weeks were everything is really clicking...the exercise, the diet, better nutrition! All cylinders are really firing!!!

But the pessimist in me says...nothing last forever! Something out there is lurking, ready to sabatoge me!!! But you know what's different this time....I"M READY FOR THEM....BRING IT ON!
Everyday I'm not only getting physcially stronger, but I'm stronger mentally and emotionally....weight training does that for you!!!!
So whatever is out there lurking around the corner to bring me down this time, whether it be a family member, co-worker, etc. telling me I can't do this....I'm ready for them. :smash:

Once again....thanks for encouraging me!

*Turning up the "Rocky" music on the scene where he's in training and running to the top of the stairs* You can do this! You are right about fighting for this! It's a daily fight for survival. :boxing: Survival for health. Survival for change. Survival for the DESIRE to change. Keep pressing on and don't worry about the people around you trying to take you down. They aren't worth having in your life if they don't have your best interest in mind. Do this for you! Well, I miss seeing you around here and hope to see you around soon!
