GreyGhostHunter's New Start

Hey all,
I would like to start out by saying this is not my first time here. I was here before and had great success. I went from over 210 lbs down to 175 lbs in a matter of about 8 months. And if it wasn't for the support and motivation I got from the great people here I wouldn't of ever made it.

Thank You.

Now I'm back. For two reasons. One, I have gained some weight back. currently I'm sitting at 190 lbs. and I'll explain that in a while. So that brings me back here again to lose what I have gained. The second, is to finish what I have started. And that is to reach my final goal. To get to 160 lbs.

To give you a background as to my passed I started this journey in Feb 2009 when I was living in Illinois. Everything was going great I ran almost everyday, stayed on a strenuous diet, and exercised as much as I could. In Sept of 2009 I changed jobs. Which not only changed my life it changed where I lived. I now work for a private military contractor in Kuwait, and have been since Sept 2009. When I got here I weighed 175 lbs. At one time soon after starting my new job here I was down to 170 lbs. But with the hours that I work it became very hard to get out and workout and run. Over time I have discovered that I started gaining weight back, and until recently I realized just how much I did gain. How did this happen with a job that is as strenuous as this. Well let me give you an example of a typical day.

At 2:30 p.m. I wake up and prepare myself for the night.
At 4:00 p.m. My ride picks me up from my apt and we all drive to our HQ on camp which take about an hour
From 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. We gear up and get our briefing for the night.
From 6:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m. I perform my duties
At 6:00 a.m. I gear down
At 6:30 a.m. We all leave and make the hour drive back to my apt.
At 7:30 a.m. Get back to my apt, get things ready for the next day.
At 8:30 a.m. I go to bed.

So there you go, my typical day, which by the way is six days a week. By the time I get to my apt in the morning I'm usually so tired that the only thing I want to do is sleep.

So the first thing I have to do is figure out how and when I can work in a workout. I did workout when I first got here and was doing a pretty good job at it. But that was also when I was working on days. Now and for the past almost a year I've been working at night and I have figured out one thing. While working on days I had more energy when I got off, unlike working nights I just don't have the energy to workout. I just want to sleep.

Then there is the DIET.....
Lately I have been eating nothing but fast food. (yes they have fast food in Kuwait, and on base) And it hasn't been the good stuff either. Hardees, KFC, Pizza Hut. I used to bring food with me but stopped for a couple of reasons. One I had to take that much more time to prepare it prior to work. and Secondly, buying fresh veggies here is a story in its own. The worst part of it is that fruits and veggies don't last. They typically only last about 3 days before they spoil. Why I have no idea. So in turn it I would have to go by fresh every 3 - 4 days and since the closest market is about a half hour drive from me it would take me at least 1.5 to 2 hours to just by fruits and veggies. So I stopped buying them.

So now WHAT......
Well, this is what I came up with. To start, I came back to the one place where I knew I could get the most support. My friends here on WLF. Secondly, I'm just going to have to make the sacrifice of sleep and get my ass back on the road and in the gym. And last, as for my diet I have decided I am going to start buying frozen veggies and meats, and maybe cook them a week in advance and just warm them up in the microwave when I go to eat.

Well that's all I have for now. I'll post more later. But right now I have to make a plan as to just exactly what and how I am going to pull this off.

Talk to you all later, wish me luck......

STAY ALERT, STAY ALIVE...

Well my first week in the books, and truthfully it wasn't the best.

My diet went well until yesterday when a coworker and I spent the day at several different markets walking around. The walking part was good, it was when we stopped to eat at Applebees that wasn't so good. I ordered a steak with mushrooms and onions. And that evening I went to Chillis and had the wings and fries. Otherwise, as for the rest of the week I did real well on the diet making sure to take my lunch to work with me and staying away from the mess hall and the food courts on base.

As for exercise, I was only able to get two good days in for running. I didn't time or measure the distance. I just wanted to get myself into a good groove and go. It worked out pretty well too. But like I said, I was only able to run twice. The rest of the week I was just to exhausted from work due to those days assignments. I was up on my feet all night and my legs just wasn't up for running.

Didn't weight myself either this week. I decided that I am not going to be as obsessed with my weight as I was the last time so I will weigh myself either next week or the week after. Hopefully this will work out for the good. But then again it may not. If not I'll change it up later. Like I said I don't want to be obsessed with weighing in.

Just a quick note.

When I got off work this morning I had to force myself to go for a run, especially since I didn't run yesterday. I really hate having to do that cause I can't enjoy the run. I didn't run long thou, only for about 20 min. along the beach a block from my apt.

I have really got to get myself more motivated and more energetic to get out and run after work.

Any recommendations?

Had a couple min before I head out the door so I thought I would post up a couple pictures of what I hope never to see again. I guess you can say this is my beginning picture.

Well I weighed in this afternoon when I woke up and I'm happy to say I have lost 5 lbs in the last two weeks.

Considering that I only got to run about half of what I wanted to, I'm pretty happy with the 5 lbs. I did how ever stayed pretty true with the diet. This week and next, I have been eating Baked chicken breast with roasted veggies. Last week I bought a large bag of frozen chicken breast and once I thawed them out I had to cook them all. So I have plenty of chicken to last me until next week. lol.

So now my official weight is:

185

Woo Woo

6 days a week on your schedule would kill me, I'm pretty sure..lol. Congrats on your 5lb loss. That's great! Oh, and welcome back to the forum. :)

Thanks Jen for the comment. I appreciate it.

Well another week in the books. Again running was pretty slim due to work. I only got 2 days in this past week. But diet was pretty good. I haven't weighed myself yet, because just like the last time I want to wait another week before I do.

Truthfully I don't feel as I have lost any this week anyways. Just on of those feelings. So lets hope for the best this next week.

Looks like you're well on your way :) A change in diet is a must when it comes to losing weight and feeling good, so I'm glad to see you've made some changes. I used to eat out a lot and felt like crap. Part of the reason why I love my new diet is daily fish and fruit juice drinks; it's like having daily rewards, and they're quite filling.

I try not to worry too much about weight and more about how my physique looks + how well I can wear my old, smaller clothes lol.

Well another week in the books.

Even thou the week prior was mediocre at best this week was on the spot. I was able to run 5 straight days this week. With only one time having to force myself to go.

As for the diet. I think I am really on to something by pre-cooking an entire weeks food. Even thou I'm eating the same thing all week it keeps me in check. So this past week I had BBQ chicken with roasted veggies.

Today was my official weigh in day, and the results are a loss of 4 more lbs.

Official weight 181

Hey grey thanks for the post.

Yea the diet thing has definitely been a challenge to start out with and it doesn't help much when my coworkers are sitting there eating Hardee's, Pizza Hut and KFC every night in front of me AND MOCKING ME.....A@@bags.....lol.

But I manage pretty good.

To the end of another week. All went pretty good this week. I got 4 good days of running in except for the fact I had to force myself to run one of those days, but by the end of the run I was glad I did.

Diet went real well, had baked spaghetti this past week instead of the shrimp that I had originally planned. That will be this next week. Just hope I bought enough for the whole week.

Again this is my odd week so I'm not weighing myself, but do feel pretty good that I have lost a couple pounds. Lets cross our fingers and hope for the best for next week.

Hi there, just a suggestion: if you run right after you wake up your body/mind will be less tired and after the run you will feel energized for your working day (well, night).

First off, thanks for the post.

Secondly, I totally agree with you on that concept. Only one thing that stops me from doing that very thing. I currently work in Kuwait, and I work nights. So when I get up in the middle of the afternoon the temp is anywhere from 120 to 130+ degrees (just a little to warm for me to run in the desert sun). So I run when I get off work when the temp is only around the 100 mark.

But thanks for the suggestion just the same.

It's that time again.

This last week was pretty good. Got 5 days of running in.

As for the diet. Went well also except for Thursday and Friday. I had run out of what I cooked last week on Wednesday, so I had to eat what I had in the cupboards.

On a side note, this past week was my birthday and I was a good little boy and stayed true to my diet. Also, last night was my last day for working nights. I start working day tomorrow. Hopefully with these 120 degree temps it will help me out in the weight loss.

So my official weight loss for this past two weeks.... 1 pound....what?

Even thou I only lost 1 pound and can't for the life of me figure out how and why (maybe due to the last couple days eating), I'm going to stay positive and move on, and hope for the better next time.

So my official weight is:

180

Looks like weight loss is slowing down as you're not only losing fat but also lean tissue that helps with calorie burning. Will help to add some strength training to retain and build muscle. Alternatives are lowering calories more or increasing aerobic activity. You know which option I like most ;)

What a nasty two weeks I had.

Now that I'm back on day shift again I have discovered something....IT IS HOT!!!!!!

I originally planned on taking a week off to get my body used to working during the day and in the heat but it ended up being two weeks. And because of it I ended up gaining 5 lbs back.

But truthfully, I got to say I expected it. So I'm not real disappointed in the gain.

So my official weight this week:

185
