Grebbers slaying the fat boy

Well her I am standing at work reading up on weight loss so I figured I would start my own diary. About 5 weeks ago I went to the doctor for a check up. Haven't been to the doctor in maybe 15 years. Had no clue what I weighed because normal scales didn't go high enough. I always have been heavy but being 6'4" and a big frame I've always carried it well. Sitting in a chair for hours on end playing world of Warcraft has takin it's toll on this 34 year old. No I wasn't addicted it wow, I just stopped being social because of my weight. And being tall made me stick out in a crowd.
anyways back to the doctors visit. I hit the scales there for a whopping 394 pounds. I really wasn't shocked. Very high blood pressure as well. The most embarrasing thing to me is now being on mess for my blood pressure. That was all it took for me to want to chainge my life.
I chewed tobacco to replace smoking as well. Ate anything without a cair. Large pizza? No problem. Gummy some food and a computer and I was set.
had to go to the doctor in the next two weeks to see how the bloc pressure was so that first day at the docs I made the first day of the rest of my life. I'm not gonna diet! I'm gonna chainge my whole life!!!!!

I stopped chewing tobacco, stopped eating crap and started leading a healthy life. Started walking and slowly getting into riding it bike.
Really watched what I ate and drank water. Two weeks later I'm back at the dogs. Get on the scales and I lost 17 pounds. Not bad for 14 days.
Blood pressure was down as well. Have to go back in a month for another check up. That will be in 10 days from now. Curious what I have done in a months time

So what have I been eating you ask? Let me tell you.

Breakfast. Usually special k with skim milk or a banana

Lunch is either a salad with some onions and light dressing. Maybe some boiled chicken on it. Or it will be tuna with light mayo on light bread. Or a banana and light yogert.

Dinner I will boil a bonless chicken breast then cut it up, throw it in a pan with onion, yellow , red peppers and mushrooms. I'll fry them all together with a lil fat free italion dressing. I will have that with a side of brockally with I can't believe it's not butter on it.

Any snacks will be grapes, apples or bananas

Once a week I will go out to eat at a nice resturant but not go crazy. It's my reward for being hood all week. That day I make sure not to eat much else tho

here's my excersize routine

I started walking about 2 to 3 miles a day. Having a dog drag my helps.
Now that it's starting to get warmer I've been riding my bike. I'm very lucky I live by a towpath that goes for miles and miles with beautifull sights along the way.
I started riding about 2 miles and it killed me. I think I was taking a break every half mile. But it's been getting better pretty fast. Just yesterday I rode 10 miles with just a few quick breaks. Now I plan on 10 every day or more and work on my times.

I think about working out at a gym but I don't feel like it ATM . Well I would love to workout my arms but I think I'm gonna hold off on the gym till the summer and for right now consintrate on walking/biking and eating right.
I have two girls 11 and 13 and I'm divorced so theyvkeep me busy with homework right now anyways.

So after I dropped that first 17 pounds I found a pair of size 48 pants. I've been wearing size 50 for a long time and I'm sure my pants have stretched even bigger than 50. I try on the 48s and they was tight in the legs and they was about 2 inches from fastening. 2 weeks later and I can wear them. Legs are loose but a tad tight in the waist still but at least I can fasten them LOL
Since I don't go back to the doctors till the end of the month, this is the only way I can guage my progress.

Well that pretty much brings this diary up to speed. Overall I'm pretty pleased with my progress. I've had my days where I feel like what's the point but I've been able to overcome them so far.

I WILL BE FAT NO LONGER!!!!!!!!

I'm tired of being alone

Man I have had slot of things to get off my chest today.
I wAs thinking of goals and have had a few from thinking of life exeriances.
For example, I want to take my shirt off in public without hearing people laugh.
I would like to not be picked last because I'm fat
Would like to be able to ask a beautifull woman out without knowing she's out of my league.
Would love to see what muscles look like on me
Would also love to know what it's like to have self confidense.

Yes these goals will take some time. I expect nothing over night. These goals are very obtainable and I will reach every one of them. Won't be this year but by next year I should have knocked most of em out.

im excited to say that after work today i ate very healthy and rode another 10 miles. this time i had a friend and his wife join me.

funny how some days everything just seems to come together while other days are horrible...

the mind games we play with ourselves.

yep i cried while watching the biggest loser. im such a puss

today was another good day.
special k and skim milk for breakfast. banana and yogurt for lunch, and a lillt bit of turky with some onions, mushrooms and a lil fat free italian dressing for dinner.
rode 12 miles tonight and another buudy from work. seems like now that im riding. everyone wants to join in. im fine with that and more power to em. its always more fun to ride with friends then alone but we will have to see how long they all last. when it comes to riding. i really enjoy it myself but some times wonder how much im getting out of it. dont get me wron i know its better then nothing but i want optimal results. i will always ride for now on, i just need to start doing other things as well. as it gets more into summer and i lose some more pounds i would love to try jogging. i jog a little bit here and mthere but im pretty fat so i dont go far lol. that will chainge in time tho. it has too

Hey man, I too am an overweight former WoW player. :conehead:

It's funny though, now that I'm exercising, losing weight and feeling good my days are always filled with interesting social and physical activities. Makes me wonder how I found all that time to play WoW to begin with.

I like those goals you mentioned. I have a sheet of paper here on my desk with something like 30-40 goals on it at the moment. Most of them are little goals, but I feel like a million bucks each time I get to check one of them off. Great idea vocalizing them like you did.

So you're bicycling, eh? I used to love biking but at 300lb I figured I was too big for it. My last memory of riding was when I weighed about 265 pounds and I popped my front tire while hoping off a curb. LOL! So you're doing okay with it though, huh? What kind of bike do you use? Perhaps I should give biking another try.

One more question for you and I promise I'll leave. :D Do you think you're getting enough calories in your diet? I only ask because it looks like you're eating fewer calories than me based on the bit of info you've given. I've been eating about 1900-2100 cals per day, and to be honest even that's a little low for me.

At any rate, I look forward to following your progress man. Stick around, and best of luck to you.

hi schwa,
Thanks for reading my thread.
I'm riding a specialized rock hopper. It's a pretty expensive bike and by no means nessessary. If your looking to get into bikeing I would highly highly highly suggest going to a bike store to get one. You will pay more but there better built and ride a heck of alot better than walmart bikes. Specialized, trek, gary fisher, and giant are a few name brand bikes that I personaly know are well built.

as for my callory intake, I would say it's around 1000-1500 a day. It's a little low ATM but I don't count callories very well right now, I'm close but it ballpark figures. If you keep up with my thread I will be doing a complete break down of my food intake and callories soon as I start getting more technical.
I also bought a heart rate monitor that tells me slot of things like callories burned and what not. I'm at work ATM so I forget the name of it. I use it while walking and biking. I try to burn 1000 callories a day so far and eventualy more as I ramp up my work outs. I'm going to start wearing it all day and give a breakdown of callories burned while sleeping/work/ then work out to give a nice ballpark of daily callories burned

ok todays log.

breakfast. special k with skim milk.
lunch. banana and light yogurt
dinner i had bakes fish and had it over cooked onions and mushrooms. side of light cottage cheese and some green beans.

befor dinner i threw on my monitor and walked to dog about a mile. ate. then friends came over and we all rode 10 miles. had a real nice hill to go up and i gave it the beat down. im very happy taking that hill. i dont think my friends thought fat boy could do it. to bad they was behind me hehe.
took a look at the monitor after the ride and burned an awsome 2400 cals.

yes i must add that today was 5 weeks since i had tobacco. ive consentrated so much on chainging my life with eating and exercise that i forgot that ive done something HUGE in my life by kicking the deadly habbit :hurray:

thanks its an awsome feeling doing something you think was near impossible.

as for today

breakfast special k with skim milk

snack banana

lunch tuna with light mayo and light wheat bread

came home walk about a mile with the dog then rode about three miles with my daughter.

dinner subway 6 inch sweet chicken teriaki.

i was pretty wore out today for some reason. my buddy came down to ride and i told him how i felt and that i may not make it up hills today
made it up all of them and did pretty well for how i felt.
seemed like i was tired and beat down most of the day and i cant put my finger on it. BUT i rode and it got better the further i went. lil over 10 miles and climbed the big hills again

bed time

Great job making it through your ride.

As for the tired and beat feeling... I'm certainly no expert, but for a man your size (and based on my understanding) it sure seems like you're not getting enough calories. I only mention it again because the "eat more to lose more" perspective was really hard for me to wrap my head around, but now the weight is pouring off, and I'm always very satisfied with my meals.

I just don't want you to slow your fat loss or lose your motivation by feeling hungry or tired from eating too little.

It would be nice if someone more knowledgeable could weigh in on this subject :D

i was thinking the same thing. funny thing is, is that im never hungry now. altho i may need more food in my diet and i will me adjusting it pretty soon.

So Saturday I throw on the size 48 jeans that I tried on the week befor. Back then they was tight but I could get em on. Well after a full week of busting my ass they fit the same. How depressing that was. Pretty much ruined the rest of my weekend. 70 miles of riding and being really good with what I eat I would have throught they would fit looser.
I'm over it today for the most part. They did just come out of the dryerwhen I tried them on. Maybe another week they will be better. Maybe I should start jogging and sit ups
