Golds Gym Question

I am thinking about joining Golds Gym this month. I am just tired of going to my work's small gym and having to wait for a machine or bench to become open, and waiting for a treadmill or stat. bike to become free. They only have 1 of each thing, so if you miss out on the bike you have to wait 30-60mins until it frees up.

They have a $49 enrollment deal with $30 monthly payments going on right now, which seems pretty fair, my only problem is im only gonna be in town for another 4-5 months. Do I have to re-enroll when I move to another Golds Gym in another city, or does it transfer? Besides using their equipment, what other perks do you get? Do you get any testing (like BF%) and help from trainers, or is that extra? I will be visiting on Sat/Sun to see if I like the place, but would like to hear from others if possible before hand.

Thanks

All Gold's Gyms are franchised out, so more than likely you would have to re-enroll unless of course the gym you move by is in your current gym's region or district. You should get an initial meeting with a personal training for body fat testing and goal orientation. Use this opportunity for questions and to evaluate the trainers knowledge, so that you can decide if you would like to work with the trainer more specifically.

Typically, gyms like Golds and Powerhouse are independently owned and operated. The enrollment fees and even price can change from location to location unless they are owned by the same person. A lot of times you can negotiate things like enrollment and even monthly payments. I've moved several times in the last 5 years and every time I join a Powerhouse they are very understanding about moving and either continue the current rate or give me a bit of a deal. One Powerhouse owner actually owned 3 different locations so in that case I could work out at any of the 3 locations at no additional charge.

I'd also recommend visiting on Monday and/or Tuesday between 5PM and 8PM. This will give you an idea of what the gym looks like at it's busiest time. This is a good time to see the gym at one of the worst times. January, before spring break, and before the heat of the summer are the worst/busiest gym days in my opinion. Check the lockerroom. If it is not clean I guarantee the equipment is not properly maintained.

The price of a gym with the equipment you need is worth every penny you will spend. It can be very frustrating to be dialed into a workout and not get the equipment you want. Different gyms have different enrollment benefits in terms of intro training assistance. But it will most likely cost extra after the intro period is over.
