Going from fat dad to fit dad

Hi all,

I'm a 38 y/o fat dad who got his wake up call last fall and started doing something about it in January. My son's friend called me fat at a football practice and that killed me. I've always been skinny, I'd never been fat but I let it sneak up on me (though I always knew in the back of my head). While it wasn't fun for me to hear that, I'm sure my son didn't enjoy hearing his dad get called fat. So for me and my family, I'm getting into shape.

I started with the Men's Health Belly Off program and just completed the 8th week. After 8 weeks, I've lost 16 pounds and a few inches from my waist and chest. Belly Off focuses on bodyweight workouts and interval training and I have to say it's worked for me. Now that I'm through with the BO program, I've moved on to Turbulence Training and am enjoying that as well.

As of right now, I'm 5'11" and 192 pounds. My ultimate weight loss goal is to get to 180 (though I may re-evaluate that as I get closer) and to fit back into size 32 jeans. After that, I'd like to put on some muscle and really work on getting a lean/tone body. I'm not looking to bulk up, just to have a strong, athletic body.

That's about it, sorry for the rambling.

Thanks Tony. I actually have 2 sons, one is 8 and the other is 6. This change in my lifestyle has been fun to involve them in as well. I was just noticing they are eating better themselves, are trying out new foods and are even trying some of my exercises as I do them. We were snowed in here in Cleveland this past weekend so they even tried to do so Tae-Bo with my wife. It's moments like those that really show me why I need to do this.

Very cool. My son is 2 and I he will lie on my back to do pushups and he loves me to hold him for jump squats. He just realize that lugging his 40lbs for unlimited jump squats is tough as hell and I need to rest every 15 or so lol.

Hey....welcome aboard !

And best of luck with the ' Turbulence Training ' protocol. I've heard some great things both about it, and, it's creator - Craig Ballantyne. He's an amazing trainer....and, he's based here in Toronto ! :)

Keep us posted as to your progress.

Thanks again to everyone. I have to say this is one of the most friendly welcomes I've received on any forum.

The Turbulence Training workouts have been great so far. Very quick but very efficient. Here's a link to my blog post with some . You can see it's working very well (at least I think so).

Craig has been great too. He's very active in the Men's Health forums and his own TT forums. It's great to have access to a trainer like that to get questions answered quickly. I like that he is no-nonsense and isn't afraid to tell it like it is.

I'm looking forward to learning a lot here, as well as contributing what little knowledge I have.

Take care
