Girls, weight on period

Hey, this question is mainly for girls, but if guys know, then that would be fantastic as well.

How much does being on or around your period effect you weight? It seems in the past day or two that my weight has been very steady/tending to go upwards and I am the day before my period and spotting (sorry if that's TMI!) I am on birth control pills if that makes any different. I tend to have very high symptoms of periods, bloating, mood swings, etc.. so wondering if weight has a direct correlation with periods and whatnot, or if for some reason my body just wants to deny that I am working out and eating right. Urgh.

I tend to gain a few pounds around the time my period is due. But i think its different for everyone. It usually comes off and more once your period ends which i love :D

:seeya:

Well that would certainly be a relief if my body follows the same trend as yours.. which it seems fairly likely how I am feeling right now.

I don't really have that problem. I crave water very badly during my period and with drinking all the water, I'm generally 5lbs under what my normal weight is, and it goes back up once it's over with and I lay off the water.

I usually see a big jump up either the first or second day, but then it's back to normal. Ovulation is a bigger water retainer for me, but doesn't apply to you because of the pill.

Wait... I thought drinking water like crazy would make you weigh more... not less.

I know for me, in general, the more water I drink, the less I weigh. During my period, I drink water like the earth is about to dry up and I've always stayed 5lbs under my current weight. And in general, when I drink water, I don't feel bloated or anything and my weights normally always down.

*shrugs* give it a try sometime during ur period?

Well I usually drink a lot of water... I have ended up in the hospital once for severe dehydration and had to be there for a few days with a water pump..so I am not going through that EVER again.. and drink water like crazy. I thought most bloating happened because of water weight, though.. or maybe I just misunderstood.

You don't retain water because you drink too much of it; you retain water because your body thinks there's a shortage of it. More drinking = less water retention. I personally don't find that to be true when the water retention is hormonally driven, but hormones are such individual things that it's worth a try.

Thanks!

I decided to just keep doing what I'm doing.. after all, drinking a lot of water and keeping active never really hurt anybody. I'll just not get too taken down by my weight during my period weeks from now on.

you know whats weird?? I tend to loose some during TOM! I've heard that TOM speeds up your metabolism...maybe thats why?? Or maybe b/c I'm sick I don't eat as much?? I dont' know, all I know is I'm not gonna complain!

Haha, you're lucky in a sense that you don't feel like eating. I CRAVE chinese and chocolate. I am going to go buy some organic chocolate.. the healthiest I can find.. tomorrow.. and go out to chinese ONCE to satisfy my craving. It's sooooo bad for me.

Oh I crave chocolate! But normally before TOM not during, when tom gets here I'm in too much pain to think about it!

Yes, I sometimes gain/lose a few pounds around that time but it generally comes right back down unless you are gorging on food during that time :D

since going on a diet and a regular exercise program has anyone found irregular periods. Cause mine are usually like clock work on the 22nd or 23rd. but Im a bit behind this month, i know for a fact im not pregnant, but could the diet be doing it. I went through a very rapid weight loss this week I was 200 around thursday now im weighing in less then 196. which hay thats great but IDK what going on

Ever since I've been working out five days a week, my weight stays pretty steady as long as I stay away from the fried stuff (which I crave SO much that time of the month). Before, I'd easily go up 5 pounds that week.
