Getting Toned

Hi, how are you?
Well yeah.. I currently signed up for the army and im just wanted to get extremly FIT and toned. I dont want to be like extremly muscelly but i do want some sort of effect.
I currently go to the gym 2-3 times a week and im starting to do cardio before weights. i hope that will work.
Does anyone else have any other helpful advice - that would be great thanks.
I just want toning effect. and i want it asap.
thanks,
Eleanor

I hate the "t" word. Since you are joining the military, it is very performance oriented. You would be better off training for performance rather than simply look.

Remember just because you lift weights, it does not mean that overnight you are going to turn into the incredible hulk.

I apologize if this does not directly answer your question, if you would like more advice on your workout, you should post exactly what you do in a typical week. Or give me a call :).

---She didn't say anything about wanting to be the incredible hulk
---She stated that she wanted to become fit, so she obviously is concentrating on both the performance and aesthetic aspects.

Now to the original question. It sounds like you have a good foundation and a running start. This is what I would suggest:
---Resistance training 3 days per week with at least 48 hours in between each workout

Workout
Full
Squatsx3 (15-20 reps)
Leg Curlsx3 (12-15 reps)
Bench Pressx3 (20 reps)
Chinupsx3 (as many as possible)
Wide Grip Chinupsx2 (as many as possible)

***at least a days rest in between each workout***

---Cardio workouts lasting around 20-30 minutes done 5-6 times per week
---ab workout should be done on 3 of the cardio days

A common mistake women make is thinking that by lifting weights they are going to become big and muscular like a man. However, this is far from the truth. The majority of women lack the amount of Testosterone needed to get as big as a male.

---Try to eat healthy. Eliminate sweets and junk food from your diet. Cut down on simple carbs somewhat. Use a macro split that looks something like:
40%protein 38%carbs 22%fats and oils

Good luck,
scott

Well rather than post a program for you to follow, I instead asked you to post what you are currently doing, so that we could take a look at your current routine and then make any necessary adjustments. I apologize for my dislike of the word 'toning'. Below is a great webpage that mentions gym myths, written by a woman. She mentions toning, sculpting, and shaping muscles. Have a read and form your own opinion/conclusions.
