Getting thru the holidays..

Hey guys! I need some help/advice/inspiration for getting through the holidays without blowing my diet and going back to not caring what or how much I eat. It's hard to stick to a strict routine during this time of year but I can't/don't want to waste weeks by not sticking to my routine. Thanks for any advice you have to offer. Hope you all have a great holiday season!
 
I know there are a few threads on this topic...but something that helps me a lot is eating a big salad or something before going to the party so I'm not hungry and therefore less likely to continually snack. I also always let myself have the holiday food, but stay away from the stuff I can get all year round like pretzels, snack mixes etc. I also up my exercise so I can get away with eating a few more calories.
 
I see no reason that holiday eats can't be enjoyed in moderation, calories are calories, just don't over do it. I think far too many people make the mistake of thinking that to enjoy holiday munchies you have to eat until you are bursting at the seams. If anything is looming over me it's the possibility that time may become an issue and I might miss a few workouts, not that catasrophic damage will be done by missing a day or two just that consistancy is very important to me.

Instead of eating a bunch of everything, this year I'm going to try and just pick out my very favorite seasonal foods (stuff I can only get at Christmas, like sausage balls and fresh baked ham) and eat those at parties and holiday gatherings. Anything I can have regularly during the rest of the year is off limits.
 
The holidays can be a challenging time for us. My plan is just to maintain as much normalcy in my eating and exercise routine, and only indulge in single-serving sizes of the treats at family functions. I'm also going to stick to using my food diary, because it makes me think twice about overindulging.
 
Hindsight is everything. I only resurrect this thread because I was browsing through my subscribed threads and found this. I went into the holidays with the best intentions. Luckily, after all was said and done, I didn't gain any weight, but also haven't lost any weight since then either. I tried the whole eating before a party thing, and I just wanted to eat the stuff there anyway because it was good. I seriously stuffed myself. This is not good. I have plenty of time til the next Holiday season, but I'm not sure how I'll handle it this time around.
