Getting Smaller Leg Muscles

My girlfriend has been looking for ways to reduce her calf, quad, and hamstring muscles. She ran track and cross country for seven years, which is how her legs got so big. I read that very high repetition (75-100 reps) exercises can help reduce her muscle size.

Can anyone offer any advice, tips, or even as far as a workout plan to get her started on the right track? Thanks a lot!

My understanding is that longer, easier bouts of cardio (instead of lower duration, but higher intensity) will burn muscle quite nicely. I forget the specifics, but I believe your body generates energy by useing free sugars, then muscle sugars, then fat for a certain window, and then it moves over to muscle.

Your girlfriend could, I suppose, go heavy cardio to wear the legs down, understanding that she will waste muscle all over and will need to build her upper body back up some when she is done.

She could also, I presume, do tons of cardio and an all upper body weight routine to combat the catabolization of her upper body mass. I would think this would be the slower approach, but it also sounds safer to me and would be the way I would recomend.

Just my two cents, and you may want to wait for some regulars to confirm or deny.

Trying to get rid of muscle is unhealthy, she would have to go catabolic which would reduce muscle everywhere. Remember that you breath with muscles, your digestive system is controled by muscles and trying to get smaller legs would effect everything.
