Thanks Oaks and Sunflower! I lost my focus over summer and then totally lost it during thanksgiving! I need to get things back in check before I derail. I think it is still salvageable at this point. Lol!
Tomorrow is the 15th and that is my traditional weigh and measure day. I'm going back to the basics of what has worked in the past for me. So small steps and lots of goals!
This is a learning experience and I am finding out a lot about myself and what works well and what doesn't.
Running goal for this year is a full marathon at the end of May! I'm really exited about it and can't wait to do it!
First race scheduled for January 1-resolution run! 5km with a goal to complete it happy (and to not freeze!)
Food goal for this month is to track what I eat and make healthier choices.
Training has been going good. I think my body prefers the run/walk intervals. We did a straight run for 5km and wow-tired and sore. It was still fun and I am happy that we did it. It was a group run and we finished in 46 minutes. Oddly slower than our walk run times with the same distance.
Thanks Q! The races all have different distances. I will be flexible and make sure the right distance fits into the training plan so that I don't overdo it.
Oaks- I have learned that I need the races to stay focused and motivated. I am looking forward to the training. I love learning especially about body things like exercise and movement. I wish I enjoyed learning as much about nutrition but, alas, it am soooo not interested in that yet. Lol!
I love the idea of structured run walk intervals. I always take breaks in my longer runs but they are usually so haphazard. I keep meaning to implement a more solid plan but it hasn't happened yet. Maybe in 2015
Oaks, 2015 is a great year to try it. I really like the intervals, they work well for me.
Resolution run 5km 43:25 not too bad for having a sinus infection! It was fun and the only nice day of the week. Still really cold, but great experience!
First day or official marathon training completed! Did Run3/Walk2 x 7 with a 5 minute warm up and 5 minute cool down. Yay!
Tomorrow is 30 minutes of cross training.
First full week of official marathon training has been completed successfully! All workout and rest days completed as scheduled.
Now I just need to work on the nutrition part with the activity part this week and things should run smooth. My goal this week along with doing the scheduled workouts is to drink my water. The plan is to have on 16oz glass with breakfast, one at lunch, one at afternoon coffee and one with supper. I have my hydration belt to have water during exercise so I am going to wear it on the treadmill. Not sure what I will do outside yet. My spout keeps freezing on me so it doesn't work well. Any cold weather runners have suggestions?
I wish I had any advice for you but my winter runs are never long enough for me to need hydration! Can you plan a loop so you can leave water at a house or car? I only have a handheld water bottle, so I have to refill on my long sumner runs.
Welcome back!! And am looking forward to reading about your training. I would love to be a runner...but my arthritis (Tricompartmental Osteoarthritis in both knees) has gotten so bad over the last year! So I will live vicariously through you! haha.
Hahaha! Thanks Tete. I'm still not sure if I want to be a runner either. Lol. I sort of fell into it and it's working so far. Joint issues suck! I hope you can find something that works for you.
Cross training today was cross country skiing. It was AWESOME! The weather was great. Only -13*C. I even passed another skier and didn't get lapped by the fit looking skate-skier. Woohoo! I managed to use my glutes instead of my hip flexors this time so no pain and I am retraining myself to use the proper muscles. Yay! My heel pain didn't even act up during the ski. I was a little worried about that as it was sore this morning after my run last night.
Water drinking went well today. Eating went good too. We made mini cupcakes for preschool tomorrow and I managed to not eat them all. SUCCESS!
Only missed one workout so far this week. Pretty good in my books. Life happened and that's ok. Have an 8 mile long slow run tomorrow with my run buddy. Should be warm so freezing water bottles will not be an issue. There is a marathon clinic that I think we will sign up for. It's from a different store than then 1/2 clinic we did. It will be interesting to see how they are the same and how they are different. The clinic will be my birthday present from the family. I am excited for it.
