Getting Frustrated

Hello All -

I am really starting to get frustrated and was hoping one of you could help me! I am 5'8" and I weigh 157lbs. I have been doing 45 minutes of cardio 3x/week for about a month now and I am also limiting my diet to less than 1500 calories/day. I lost 1lb last week and then I gained it back this week. I just don't get it. I know that I am slightly overweight, but it's like my body just doesn't want to give it up. I am also currently taking 10mg lexapro/day, but I was told that it may be a little harder to lose the weight, but I will. I'm starting to wonder. Does anybody have any advise?

Thanks in advance!

No idea about lexapro. Probably start doing 2 to 3 strength training sessions a week.

How old are you? What kind of cardio? What kind of calories?

Strange you haven't lose weight most people lose weight water the first 4 to 6 weeks.

I am 30. Right now I am doing either ArcTrainer or Elliptical for 45 mins (from the machine's calculations I am burning around 550 calories). An average day for me would be breakfast: iced coffee w/skim milk only, plain yogurt w/honey lunch: salad, or some other food for around 300 calories (sometimes frozen), dinner: pork chop w/small side of pasta. I try to have a banana or someother snack in between if I think of it.

Also, I tried incorporating weights into my routine, but I gained 6 lbs. I know it shouldn't matter about weight, but I would like to try to see if I can lose 10 lbs and then I will start the weights.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1500 to 1600 cals is a good target. I would advise you to weight yourself once a week and when you wakeup in the mornings(on an empty stomach), 1lb is nothing really it could be the scale or human error, some people including myself can flucate 2 to 3 pounds during the course of a day. Of course a bodyfat test is best.

You shouldn't of gained weight during weight training unless you increased you cals. I would start training the more lean muscle you have the more firm/tone you'll be and burn more cals at rest. And don't worry about being bulky that takes a lot of hard work, time and drugs in a lot of people's cases.

I just started to drink more water. I'd say on average I drink 2 glasses/day. But I drink 2 large dunkin donut iced coffees w/skim milk no sugar. I also just started taking a multi-vitamin. Do you think drinking water really could have an effect on weight loss? Is my body trying to hang on to the water or something and that's why I haven't lost anything?

Thanks again!

dude weight dosnt matter.. just do weight lifting.. gain muscle mass. do u need to cut down to a certain weight for some reason? iced cofee cant be too good for you...

Get off the scale and start looking in teh mirror and noticing how your clothes fit. Gaining 6 pounds of muscle means you burn more calories even though you gained weight.

dont get frustrated it happens you gain weight while your exercising and on a healthy diet, its cause your gaining muslce mass which weights more than fat. you should be happy your gaining msucle mass it means you will be leaner and you will more calories. when i started loosing i wasnt loosing much according to the scale but then measuring myself i was losing inches off my hips and thighs and i felt healther then like a week after i got on the scale and i had lost a couple of pounds.

now-125-126 pounds
goal 120 pounds
