getting even

Hey everyone,
I need y'alls advice..Let me introduce myself first...I'm an eighteen year old and a new member of this very cool forum . As a child I was really fat I, and when i say really fat I mean it. But at the age of nine I slimmed down due to illness and natural causes as increasing in height. The only thing i kept was my very big behind! I've learned to live with it i guess and I am now even starting to think that it fits me. Anyhow, a big behind wouldnt be a problem if I didnt look like a skeleton everywere else.
I currently weigh 112pounds (50kilos) and I'm 5'7. I look really skinny especially because my behind is grabbing all the fat from the other parts of my body and keeping it for itself . My upperbody looks so skinny, my legs are a little better. My knees and down are real skinny.
I want a more even look! I want to keep the behind but I want to get fat to other body parts as well...I know this is practicaly impossible..I know packing fat there runs thorugh my family my mother has it..but my sister looks normal (meaning it doeasnt look like mine i e really big)...But anyway if I start gaining weight do you think that my body will start looking more even or is the butt my place of fat storage and thats were all the excessive fat I eat will go? I'm thinking of starting some weight lifting to shape my upperbody but due to me not having alot of fat there the muscles I gain will probably start showing and I dont find that attractive even the slightest.
ANY ADVICE?!

Well, to get the "evened out" thing, I guess just eat. But, I also guess you could do some butt exercises to slim it down, maybe the fat will go to some other places then. Hrm. Hard question... :(

Hehe I know its a hard question :(....Butt exercises will probably only make it bigger.
Thanks for replying anyway....I thought people were ignoring me hehe.

I understand you want symmetry, but where your body deposits fat is up to your genetics and no one over the net will be able to give you an answer. so if you do decide to pack on some more fat we have no idea where that will end up, or end up next. so if you want to look more symmetyical what you'll have to do is actually loose weight/loose fat. Why? that will reduce the size of your butt, and once you get your butt to the size you want it then just stop and maintain. this is going to be the only good solution, this way you wont gain muscle mass which is ugly to you, and your butt will be symmetrical to the rest of your body.

this next part is just a copy & paste with some helpfull info on weight loss
-------------
template for loosing fat (cutting)
by average I mean you just want to effectively loose fat, without becoming extreme about it. I will try and outline the basics for you, and later on you should make adjustments / additions that will best fit your needs.
all that will be discussed is for optimal fat loss

DIET : -40% protein 40% carbs 20%fat this is a basic layout. "what kind of protein?" well you should eat: chicken, tuna, eggs, fish, beef are all acceptable basically avoid things like fast food meats and other stuff that's just common since. "what about carbs?" mainly oats, whole grains, starchy vegetables, and fruits mainly the ones with the word (berries) in them. "and fat?" most of your fat intake should be from vegetable oils, seeds and nuts. if you don't like those foods there are some alternatives. -"how many calories?" around 200-300 or 20-30% less than your maintenance level, "how do I know what my maintenance level is?" one way to figure it out is to keep a calorie intake journal for 5-7 days. If your weight stays constant, then you simply divide the total calories consumed by the number of days and you’ll get your daily intake. -liquids: 1-2 gallons/4-8 Liters of water a day is the basic amount you want. you should eat 6 meals a day spaced out 2-3 houres. foods you will want to say away from are: soda, mayo, chips, french fries, ice cream, most salad dressings & oils(except olive oil), cheese. if you can't live without them then go for non-fat and low sugar type things. use some common sence and don't try to make drastic changes all in a day, it should be a gradual process. once you get to the weight you like then you can raise your calorie intake up to maintenance.

SUPPLEMENTS: (first tier supps) for fat loss is a multivitamin and some EFA's (essential fatty acids). (second tier supps) protein powders like casein (used before bed) would be the one of choice for fat loss, whey (after workout) is also benifital. thermogenic fat burners or stimulant-free fat burners are usefull in loosing weight, follow the direction on thoes products which is very important. they will add an extra boost to your goals (san tight is a good stimulant-free product). I would not bother with anything else like carb blockers, fat blockers, appetite suppressants, and other fat loss products you will see everywhere, with maby the exception of thyroid hormone increasers but usally there is no need for them.

WORKOUT PROGRAMS: almost any program will work. the only thing you will want to add is less rest between exercises and sets, but don't hurt yourself.
alot of these exercises have dumbbell-counterparts.
Chest: Parallel bar dips, Bench Press, Incline Press
Legs:Squats (including front squats), tiff-Legged deadlifts, Calf-raises
Back:Bent-over rows, Chins Bent-legged, Deadlifts (also a leg exercise)
Delts:Military press, Lateral raises
Arms:Close-grip bench, press Close-grip chins
you can find fully detailed workouts.

CARDIO: there are two main types of cardio you should use, first is called slow cardio and the second is called HIIT (high intensity interval training). you should use them in a ratio of 3-1 (IE 3 days of slow and 1 day of HIIT). For best results do cardio 4 times a week for an houre, too much is somtimes counterproductive and too little is well too little. "what is slow cardio?" slow cardio is doing any activity (running, biking, swimming, boxing, etc) with about 75-85% of your max heart rate for an houre. "how do I know what my max heart rate is?" well when you do an activity where you are still able to talk without being extremely out of breath, or another easy way is take 220 and minus your age then take that number and multiply it by .75-.85 which will give you rough percentages of 75-85% of your max heart rate or (HR), of course this is not entirly accurate, cause everyone is different. "ok what is HIIT then?" HIIT works like this first you warm up doing whatever for 5 min then take some time and stretch. after your all ready, start a moderate pace for 1 minute then you move your pace up to 90-95% of you max HR for the next 15-30 seconds, then go back down to your moderate pace for 1 min, then back up to 90-95% and back down agen. you get the idea (moderate for 1 min, then 90-95% for 15-30 sec) do this around 15-20 times and your done.

WILLPOWER: alot of people try to make changes too fast and end up quiting, so don't over do it, this means to slowly change your diet and work your way up to the suggested cardio regimen. if you don't workout already and don't want to that is ok, working out is not required for loosing weight but it will help the main parts are your diet and cardio. by phaledax

Hey Phaledax!
Thank you for taking the time to reply to my question :),
Weight loss is probably the only way to get rid of my behind you're right, but I already look like a skeleton (at least thats what my mom says) and here I have the same problem that I don't know if my behind will get much smaller since probably that's where my primary fat deposit is and thats the last fat that my body will ever loose...
You said that "no one over the internet will be able to give you an answer"...does that mean that it can be determined where my fat probably will end up if I go to somebody that can examine me or a personal traner etc?
I'm not looking for perfect symmetry...I know that I'll always have a big behind and thats something that I've somewhat learned to live with but what I'm looking for is to gain some upperbody fat...
Is there anyway that I can gain weight but prevent it from going to my behind by doing certain exercises or something else?

and is there anyway to move fat like if I do exercises so that my hip muscles get more volume will they take over some of the fat from the behind? ( i know its a dumb question but I just had to ask )

Why don't you just work out and increase muscle mass(Through diet and exercise). That way your body will be bigger, but your butt probably won't get any bigger.

NO there is no way to force the fat into different areas. I do know there are people who look at your genetic background which are able to make a educated guess as to what would happen, though I think there mainly for people making babys so the pending parents get an idea of what there child might look like. If you wanted to look for them Id start with asking a pediatrician and go from there. Also police detectives have a computer program that generates portrates of people of what they might look like in the future, anyway Im not too knowledgeable on this subject. but it doesn't take a genious just look at for parents and grandparents as to what will happen. also if the rest of ya is already a skeleton it's not like you could even loose any more else where.
you reasoning for want to gain fat in the first place dosn't really make sence to me, but Ive seen a few questions like this before so no biggie I guess.

Why I want to gain fat? Because I want to get more even ...and because I currently look very skinny, and thats what everybody tells me.

Crazy Carl yes that is what I hopefully will try to do eat more (but only good fat) and do weight lifting etc...

Safina,

Please do not lose any more weight. If you are 5'7" and 112 pounds then you are underweight. Now that is a general response according to height/weight charts.

I am 5'6" and weight 127 pounds. I workout regularly and eat well.

Please don't lose more weight. That will not help you in the long run. It won't even help you in the short run. Some of the above advice is just plain wrong. You are smarter than you realize because you are hesitant to drop more pounds...

Okay, going off the little bit that I know you are looking to even out your body. You realize that you may not have the smallest derriere in the world, but that's NOT what you are seeking. You recognize that your family history is one that allows for some extra padding in the back. Great.

Here's what we can do... recongize that strength training is NOT bodybuilding. If you strength train 3 times per week you WILL NOT gain huge muscles. It is so hard for women to 'bulk up' because we do not produce enough testosterone in our body. Check out my site for loads of information about strength training-

Building some lean muscle will give you a more defined appearance. It will even you out more than anything else.

The tricky part of your post is that you want to lose fat in your butt, but add a little meat everywhere else. So begin a strength training program today. Work with an online trainer or a trainer at your gym. Trainers can give you a safe routine.

Also, find a clean way to eat. You will want to consume enough calories to sustain your current weight, add muscle and also lose fat. Now this is impossible to do all at once, but it can be done in stages.

Please do not lose more weight. You will destroy your metabolism and your body will hold on to its fat for energy. It will simply eat the muscle you have. These boards are great for some things, but sometimes professional advice is needed.

Hi Trainer Lynn!
Thank you for your good advice, I feel so much better. I will try everything that you suggested. Hopefully I will be able to be more satisfied with how I look. I hope strenght training helps! I will definately check out the websites you gave me :).
I know that I wont be able to get rid of my behind completely but thats fine, I'll live with it. Someone told me that if I dont have alot of upperbody fat I then my muscles will start showing if I strenght train but I guess thats not the case  ...

I have one more questions...I've heard that gluetus maximum exercises can lead to the behind getting even bigger. How much should I train to get firmer but not bigger?
And If I get firmer will my behind look smaller?

Depends on your genetics. I am slender, but have a nice round booty from muscle. No one would say it's large, but it has definite shape. That's the sign of a muscular behind. Note- toned and healthy women almost always have a booty from muscle.

Now if your behind is LARGE, that's most likely extra fat deposits. Regular exercise and proper nutrition can help reduce overall body fat. As we talked about above. Reducing overall body fat will cause your booty to look smaller. Regardless of if you gain muscle there.

Visualize this- one pound of fat weighs the same as one pound of muscle, right? One pound is one pound. The difference is that one pound of fat takes up four fists worth of space. Ball up your fist and imagine four of your fists. That's the size of one pound of fat. Now for the best part of this post, one pound of muscle only takes up the space of one fist!

One pound of fat= 4 fists
One pound of muscle= 1 fist

See how losing fat will reduce your butt, but adding muscle won't matter? It will still be smaller than what you have now.

Don't worry about bulking up, or making your butt bigger with exercising. It would take A LOT of muscle to significantly increase the size of your bottom.

Thank you for your answer Trainer Lynn you always respond so wisely...:)
I want to gain some weight and therefore losing overall body fat (to make my behind smaller) is not an option since I am quite skinny. Inevitably (but I'm praying it wont) my derriere will get bigger when I have gained the weight I'm planning to gain both with weight training and eating larger meals. So therefore I asked the question if my behind would get smaller if I did some training of the gluteus maximum. Will it get smaller if I make it firmer by exercising that muscle? ( Either I can't read properly because I am so tired or you didnt answer that question :S)

Safina,

Your situation is more unique than "do this and it will all be solved." As I stated above, you need to add muscle to gain an evened out look (as that was your first request). Then you need to shift into fat loss mode (to reduce your butt).

So first you need to work on a fitness program designed to add muscle. And yes you should work your butt. Add as much muscle as possible (don't freak out about bulking up) because that will help you in the next phase of your program- fat loss.

Here is your answer, adding muscle to your butt will not make it bigger or smaller because you seem to have a lot of fat in your butt (according to you in your above posts).

Let me know if this cleared anything up? :D
