Getting down to business.

Hi all,

I'm starting this weight loss diary and I'm hoping to get as much feedback as you can give! That's why I'm here. :)

I'll start by answering the questions that are provided.

What is your current height and weight?
5'9, 170 lbs.

If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be?
I'd say around 130 lbs.

At what weight would you like to be at four months from now?
At least halfway to my goal, so around 145. The smaller the better, though.

Why do you want to lose weight?
I don't feel as good about myself as I used to, and I want to look in the mirror and feel like I can put on anything I want to and look nice.

Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? If so, when is that event?
Cruise - September 13th, 2009.

What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals?
Lack of self control.

Why do you think that you now have a weight problem?
Because a good weight should look good. And I don't think I look good.

What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight?
More exercise and eating less garbage.

Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight?
Never done this before.

Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time?
Yes, I'd do that.

Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook?
Not often enough. I don't know how to cook healthy meals.

How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go?
Too often, it's a thing of laziness and convenience.

What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food?
Limit myself on how big the portions are...eat less fatty and unhealthy foods, and cook the food myself in a healthier way.

If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different?
40 lbs lighter, more toned.

Do you eat when you are not hungry?
Sometimes.

Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)?
Yes.

Do you hide your food or eat in secret?
No.

Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed?
Not any more than I usually eat.

Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer?
Yes.

In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing?
I am a nanny, and I have just started taking pretty long walks with the baby when it's not absolutely freezing outside.

Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? Home?
I haven't really started any big exercise yet.

What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise?
I like to walk, hate to run. I like pilates ( from what I've tried with workout videos).

What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals?
The cruise that is coming up in about 8 months has me desperate to lose the pounds.

Do you have rewards for certain goals?
No, I'm clueless about all of this still.

Any advice on where I can start, recipes, calorie intake advice, etc would be VERY appreciated. Thank you all.

Well. It's 5pm of day 1.

Here's what I ate:

Breakfast - I ate an apple on the way to work, and a light yogurt about an hour later.

Lunch - I ate a bowl of salad with light dressing on it.

Snack - I ate some wheat thins, and later had a 90 cal Chewy bar.

Dinner - Screwed up here, ate some food from KFC that was here waiting for me when I got home.

I didn't do my usual walk today, because it was super cold outside. I watch a 4 month old baby during the day M-F and it was too cold for her to be out, so I had to skip it.

I feel motivated to lose the weight, but I also feel scared that I'll fail.

I hope I can keep up with eating smaller and lighter meals, and being more active.

After posting last night, I went to 24 hour fitness and restarted my membership. My boyfriend and I worked out together. I really enjoyed it and that was a really positive step for me. I work all day today, so I will post tonight about what I ate... hopefully nothing bad!

This won't be a long post, because I worked a very long day today and I'm WAY exhausted.

I ate well - stuck to fruits, veggies, and small portions.

I've been drinking a TON of water, hoping that will decrease my appetite a bit without making me fatter. lol

I'm going to do some of 24 hour fitness' classes this weekend (the yoga, and the 24Dance) to see if any work for me. :)

Day 2 - success. Yay.

Hi again :)

I ate lightly today. Proud of that.

I also went on my usual long walk with the baby that I watch, but I opted to use the carrier that straps onto my shoulders instead of the stroller. I figured it's an extra 15 pounds to carry around and would probably add to the workout a little.

I am going to the gym in a little while. I have a few good books to read so I will probably spend 45 mins or so on the treadmill or elliptical and then do some leg/ab weight machines.

Anyway, to everyone who reads this, have a good weekend...and as always your opinions/questions/comments are welcomed. :)
