General questions for PT's

Hi, This for all you personal trainers out there I just wanna ask some general questions to you all as I'm looking into getting into the health and fitness world.
So here are my questions:
Where do you live?
Are you happy with your job and why?
What is the average income of being a personal trainer?
Why did you become a personal trainer?
What did you take in college/university to become a PT(could difference from country to country)?

If anyone else would like to add questions just ask and stuff. I would like to see some of the different responses from people.

Thanks alot

Phoenix, AZ
Personal trainers in a gym make about $15-$35 per hour, but only when training clients. To make money you have to be very good at getting clients and keeping them - basically sales+marketing. Independent trainers usually charge between $50-$75/hr and maybe more for in home clients. It's a great career and you can make plenty of money at it if you are good with the sales and good with motivating people.

Well im a fitness instructor but im moving into personal training soon.

I live in New Zealand
I earn $17 NZD / hour plus comission and bonuses.
Im currently completing a degree in Sports Science
Im not happy with my job, doing training is just a means to an end I want to get into facility management and event planning.

Hope this helps.

Where do you live? NJ
Are you happy with your job and why? I love it: every day is a different challenge, every day I get to help people...plus I can wear shorts to work :D
What is the average income of being a personal trainer? Figure somewhere between $20-40/hr at most places in NJ, maybe a bit more in NY. For a private client I charge $90/hour
Why did you become a personal trainer? I fell into it accidentally, and i loved it. It started as a means to an end, but had become far, far more than that now for me
What did you take in college/university to become a PT(could difference from country to country)? The basic science courses, and I'm completing a clinical doctorate in physical therapy (graduate 2009)

Thanks everyone for the responses. Learned some new stuff about it. Everyone seems like they enjoy their job. Everyone at my local fitness centre seem to enjoy theirs jobs as well.

This area seems like a great field to get into. As I am a fitness nut and probably always will be from here on out I think this is a great field for myself to get into.

Again thanks for the all responses but if anyone else still wants to fill it out please be my guest and go for it. Always like other people opinions on this kind of topics.

Hey John

I see you work at Rutgers University Recreation, do you happen to know Jay Butler? He has done wonders for the RU Football team, I been a RU fan since the Anderson years, Jay has done a fantastic job and they made the facilities fantastic.

I wish he could write a book.
