Newbie to this forum, and it looks great.

I am about to have a gastric bypass, but am finding it really difficult to find people in the UK that have had a gastric bypass. I have about 200lbs to lose and would love to be able to chat with someone who has had a similar amount to lose and is doing it after a bypass.

I've lost close to 200lbs without benefit of surgery... It can be done without too much difficulty...

What made you decide to have surgery and when are you going to go under the knife?

I have tried every diet going and always managed to put the weight back on and more. I lost 7 stones 18 months ago, but have put it back on. I need to do it now before it's too late. I have thought loads about this, and I am now looking forward to surgery. I have my op on 17th May.

How did you lose 200lbs without surgery? That is fantastic, well done.

i'm not a big fan of surgery and after you've said you've tried every diet going and managed to put the weight back - SCREAMS out ot me tha you are going to have the same issue after the surgery because you have always dieted and never committed to a lifestyle change.

I hope you've undergone lots of counseling before this surgery -which is not without risks - and are able to do what it takes to be successful...

surgery sometimes is the only option for some ppl.. but u gotta understand many of us were in the same boat and conquered this without surgery or pills..

hardwork and determination is the best thing

Hello and Welcome to the Forum
I havn't had Gastric Bypass so I wouldn't have much to say. I did top up to 180 pounds once *aaack!* but It's a battle for me even now. I get too lazy or too tired and give up quickly. I keep telling myself tomorrow is a new day and I'll eat healthier. It's not about today, nor tomorrow it's about feeling and being healthier all around. Personally I' am terrified like crazy of having any sort of surgery (God Forbid anything like that)
I've thought of getting it done when I look at myself or when I start to dislike myself but I'd never do be able to. It's something that'll change your life and you should think hard about your new lifestyle. Eating well and exercise will help as well, even an hour each day of walking is great. Do let us know how everything goes, time is ticking and before you know it, it'll be time =)

Thanks everyone for your comments. I would do it "naturally" if I could, but I can't and time is ticking before I actually start with any co-morbidities. If I was only 5 stones overweight, then it would probably be doable, if I was 8 stones overweight, I may even be able to do it, but I am a lot more than that overweight.

Michelle7272 - I tried to send you a private message, but becuase I am also new here, you have to have posted 5 posts and been on longer than 5 days, so as soon as I can, I will send you a message and we can chat. Glad someone around near me with around the same weight to lose.

I agree that you don't seem ready.
If you have already lost the weight then gained it back what makes you think that you won't gain it back after the surgery. Yes your stomach will be smaller at first but from what I read if you start stuffing food in it it will expand back up and you will be right in the same boat as you were before.
First you need to change your entire lifestyle so you will be able to maintain your new weight, but if you learn to do that then you shouldn't need the surgery anyway.

Thanks for your comments, I have decided on the operation and having spent thousands of pounds on it, I WILL be good!

i absolutley and completely understand why you have opted for surgery....don't people think that we have tried all the diets going and as my sugeon said its actually a problem some people are born with and no matter how long or how many times we loose the massive 7-8 stone it will always go back on.i have diabetes in my family and am always in some sort of pain either , feet, back, siatica, breathlessness and many more problems.its impossible to exercise....so if its so easy to loose weight why am i (not) living like this.
would love to hear more about you and how you are doing.
take care michelle

hope it went well

just to let you know since i joined in 2009 i have lost 10st, just a few more to go but feeling fantastic, however it was an easy option to take it did bring about nasty hair loss and spots, dry skin, but its worth it for me, im no longer diabetic, i walk more i exersise everyday, and have taken up jogging, slowly for now with many stops for air but ill get there

at first it does seem a bit harsh specially if your body is not used to it

but in the long run your body should be able to adjust
