I don't understand how anyone who does any amount of research on the procedure is surprised by being sick. I have not heard or read the experience of a single person who hasn't been sick - bad heartburn, throwing up, etc.

Do people do research before they get this procedure and understand what they're going to be dealing with, or do they just get it and then be surprised by the side effects later?

I really don't understand this.

Hi,

Sorry, kind of jumping in here, as I normally post on a different gastric balloon thread, but I just wanted to say that the companies offering the balloon in the UK provide literature which suggests that the sickness will settle down within a week or so. I think everyone expects to be sick for the first couple of weeks, but when it goes on longer than that, it's not what we were led to expect! I'm almost at the end of my 6 months now, and I still feel queasy some days!

Of course, anyone who has looked through the various posts/threads on here, will probably have seen that things don't always go "by the book". But I know myself that prior to having the proceedure, I took more notice of what the balloon provider told me than of anything else I heard or read. I wish they would be a bit more honest in what they tell us!

the information I was given was that the sickness would ease , but did not tell you how bad the heartburn can be,all the information, research does not prepare you for this

sorry to hear you have heartburn, i seen to have gotten off lightly here, only been sick once and not a jot of heartburn or acid reflux. the only problem is my god damn smelly burps x

Please to say that the sickness is rare now and the acid reflux is much better and I have lost two stone, feeling good

My clinic puts everyone on prescription medication for acid reflux, for the entire 6 months. They say that stomach acid degrades the balloon so to take Prevacid daily.

Had my balloon on Feb 12th and still feel yicky. I knew I would feel sick but still struggle with keeping portions small, otherwise I am sick sick sick. But I still want to nibble all the time so I think about food and feel deprived constantly!

Unfortunately I haven't lost much weight, even though I have trouble getting enough food in me. Protein drinks help, but are too heavy. I am still weak and likely not losing as I am not burning.

Any advice on how long it was until you had enough energy to exercise ? (I still find it a challenge to empty the dishwasher!)

I think it took a good two months for my gastric balloon to settle down, the sickness is not so bad but the hunger pains are back so now I find I have to be careful with my diet and now I have enough energy to diet.Hold on in there it will get easier.:hurray:
