About a month ago I changed my diet. I have quit eating red meat - eat high fiber cereals - salads, fish, etc., I jog 4 miles every other day. Instead of losing weight I have actually gained more then 10 pounds...thats pretty depressing...any idea's?

hard to say, really. Are you counting the beer's you've been downing ? ;)

Are you eating more calories now than before? And what kind of calories were you eating before? ... water retention? What time of the day are you weighing yourself? ... weight gaining is not usually a '1-factor' thing, unless it's something really obvious like over-eating.

Re: Gaining Weight

Well, since I've changed my eating habits I think Im taking in less calories. I do weigh myself in the morning but i had one person tell me to throw the scale out the window. Dont know if there is any truth to this but i was told by one person if I dont drink enough water my body will retain water especially if I'm running/jogging and putting a strain on my body....any thoughts...

yea, the scale is a waste of time. It is far from being an accurate determination of your weight and health. Instead, use a combination of your body-fat-percentage (BF%) and measurements throughout your body.

I step on the scale every once in awhile when someone makes a comment that i'm either looking bigger or smaller, just out of curiousity, but it is by no means what a go by. Mostly, i go by the mirror ... don't even bother measuring. If i'm working out and i can see a bit of change, i feel good (good lighting really helps ... gyms are good for that ;)).

As far as the water goes, it's the same for food. If you aren't getting enough of either, then the body goes in to storage mode and starts retaining water or fat. Water retention can always screw up your perceived progress ... but, in the long run, your water retention will always be a set amount. So, once you've reached that max (if you do), then you will start to see more progress.

I'm not sure if water retention can cause much of a strain on your body though ... a little access weight through water retention shouldn't be too much of a bother on your system ... but, i'm not 100% on that issue.
