Gaining weight instead of loosing

Hello there,

I've been trying to lose 15-20lbs post pregnancy. I've cut a lot of junk and trying to eat healthier, drinking a lot of water and trying to have a meal every 3 hours. I am in gym 3-5 days a week plus regular walking and household duties.... I am on the go all the time.

Anyway, I've gained about 7lbs. My body fat is not down and I also understand that muscles gain more then fat but are there any tips what I should do do gain the mucles but also lose the weight. I can see that my paints fit me differently... fit me better but thats not my goal. My goal is to lose weight.

Thanks a lot.

Without specific information, I can only share some of my thoughts and experiences, take what you want and leave the rest......

I have been as guilty as anyone when it comes to being obsessed with the number on the scale, and I know how frustrating it is when it doesn't budge despite your best efforts, but the truth is that it really is just a number. I have weighed 92.5 and I have weighed 130 (I am only 5' 2 1/2"), I was not healthy at either end. I sometimes have to remind myself that I am not walking around with a neon sign over my head flashing my weight. You could also take 2 woman who both weigh 130 pounds, one a couch potato and one who works out regularly and they would both look totally different. Yet, the magic number on the scale is the same! Your clothes do fit better which means you do look better!

It is easier if you look at the number on the scale as only 1 leg of the weight loss stool. Yes, it can give you feed back, but it is far from the whole story. If you began tracking not only scale weight, but body fat %, tape measurments, and your moods/energy levels, you would have a much better handle on what is going on.

If you did decide to track your body fat %, from there you could approximate how many pounds of fat and how many pounds lean mass you have. And from what you describe, I'd bet you'd have seen a huge improvement from where you started!

Sometimes it can also be easier to focus on other things as well like increasing performance, or time or weights lifted in your workouts, or perhaps beating your record for most veggies consumed in a week or eating your weight in grams of protien everyday.

Don't forget, part of the lingering weight may also be due to hormones or stress levels, you just had a baby, be gentle with yourself, eat well, workout, be patient and consistent, and enjoy your baby.

Nice reply, Sandy. I just wanted to add that more information would be helpful. If you are seeing that your clothes fit better... then you are losing inches. Im a bit intrigued though because you mention that your body fat has not changed. If this is true... you are losing something, right? If not fat, then muscle?

Something isn't fitting together here for me. I could be missing something, but if you're eating well and working out... and have a weight gain... but the body fat did not drop... you probably need to re-check the diet and workout plan.

Thank you both for your replay. I shouldnt be so hard on myself in the first place because I am dealing with lots of post pregnancy weight. But every woman wants to look good.
I think about my prom size dress, size 6 and now 7 years later I fit in size 12-14. The only good part is I am 5'9 so I dont look as much as I weight.

When I think about this weight gain I think I should clean up my diet even more. I've been doing that for 2 days so we'll see what's gonna happen.

Thanks again for your replay.
