Gained weight - need help on toning up

Hello, I am 19 years old and naturally slim and petite. Ive always been classified as 'underweight' (medically) but it is natural to me and i do eat alot.

Anyway about 2 weeks ago i got tonsilitus for a fortnight and as a result i lost a stone in weight and was begining to look sickly thin, so i have basically since then been stuffing my face with junk food determined to become a 'normal' weight again...but I've ended uo putting it all on my stomach so now i almost look slightly pregnant cos the rest of me is so thin!!

I wondered then if a anyone has any advice on loosing weight in the stomach area, i dont want to go on major diets cos the rest of me is still slim, perhaps excersises? or even any foods which would help..

Thanks so much xxxxx

Beauty .... we can all give you advice on how to lose weight, but unfortunately, it doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be from your stomach area. You cannot spot reduce. Do you have any exercise equipment at all ?

Not really, i have exercise ball but thats it, I'm not a member of any gym either.
I know what you mean, i just dont want to diet propperly because the rest of me may become too thin.

Beauty,

I understand that you don't want to lose weight, but eating a proper diet and exercising may help you tone up your muscles and redistribute your body fat. I'm sorry, but I am not sure exactly what the conversion equation is for stones to pounds, but have you ever heard of the term skinny fat? I'm not sure if that applies to you or what your current diet is or even what you goals are beyond losing some belly fat, but like jpc said, there is absolutely no way you can just lose fat from your belly area.

I used to be in exactly your situation. Most of my life I was medically underweight, very skinny. I ate constantly. The worst was when I got very sick with mono at 19 and lost 10 pounds. I did finally gain weight but I was disapointed when I didn't have a flat stomach any more.

Unfortunately to lose the belly fat you will have to lose weight all over. ANd that's not necessarily what you want. I highly recommend that you start strength training. With your body type it will be difficult to gain much muscle, but you will gain a little. If you don't want to join a gym you can always purchase a few dumbbells and workout at home. Eating a healthy diet with good complex carbs, lean proteins and lots of water will make a huge difference in how you look and feel! I started by simply changing my eating habits (I used to eat nothing but junk!), lifting some weights at home and going for walks. I slowly gained a bit of muscle and lost some fat. I now feel so much better (I get sick less, I have much more energy). I'm still thin, but I have a firm, fit looking body.

I hope my suggestions have helped, and please let me know if I can help more!

Thanks loads, you've made me feel alot better, I will take you're advice and hopefully things will improve : ) xxx

I agree. I almost always tell smaller framed people NOT to focus on eating less calories or a fat loss approach. I think it's more beneficial to focus on building muscle and allowing the muscle to naturally reduce body fat.

I am a smaller frame person as well. My diet sounded a lot like yours... eat junk whenever I wanted. Guess what happened to me? I was still thin but had a belly :)

I went straight for the weights. Got an excellent strength program and menu going and added a bit of cardio. Worked wonders.

Only way I know of to lose weight disproportionatlely around the midsection

I have read in a study that was possibly published by ACE Fitness in a news letter I believe, two groups were given a specific amount of calcium, one group with tablets and the other with yogurt. They both exercised regularly and took in the same amount of calcium just in different ways. Both groups lost the same amount of weight but the control group that lost it disproportionately around the mid-section was the group that ate yogurt rather than just the tablets. I hope this helps you.

This helped me a bit too guys.....thanks! I'm thin, 5"4 and at 105, I've always been thin my whole life......and have been able to eat whatever I wanted....so far, I still can, I don't have a belly. BUT, I am starting to see it around my butt, well below it, and I can't stand it! I'm going to try and use all your tips!

hiya, lately ive been getting really stressed. I still have baby fat on my face all over. Im 17 years old nearly 18 and my face feels and looks in some mirrors really saggy:(. I know this takes take and it will go as i age but its really annoyin me and making me feel uncomfortbale. sometimes my eyes look crossed becasue the fat above and below them my cheeks are kind of podgy. Do you think lifting weight often and doing cardio work will help me get rid of this fat quicker? plz help

It depends. Some people have chubby cheeks and it'svery cute :p Others can stand to lose a little body fat and that means the face will even out as well. It really depends on your current height, age, weight, body fat %.

As a side note... weights and cardio are always a good habit to get into :D
