full body workouts?

Hey guys. Im a newbie to weight training. Usually when I train, I work just about every part of the body. Is it better to do this or is it better to have one day set aside for arms, another for legs, etc?

If your just starting it will work. do this for about 2 weeks, then change the order, weight, reps and sets used to chalenge your body.

Also full body workouts are great for losing weight because ideally blood is flowing through most of your body, thus increasing matabolism. (don't compensate this with eating more)

However, even though your are a beginer train 2-4 times a week or every other day so your body has time to recover. Stretch the body parts used during the exercise for about 30secs-2mins to help with recovery.

However, training specific body parts is when your training at a higher level of workouts when your body parts need the rest. This also allows you to spend more time on specific parts you want to exercise which you feel need to be tweeked.

P.S.
Try not to work over an hour. Not only can this lead to overtraining and a backslide in progress but testosterone levels begin to drop, and the exercises are no longer wuite as effective.

good luck with your routine

I prefer to do a 4-day split because I lift heavy and I really need the extra days to rest. Monday - lower body; Tuesday - chest/tris/abs; Thursday - bis/back; Friday - shoulders, lower back.
What are your specific goals? If they are to build muscle, I recommend doing a split and lifting heavy. If you just want to lose fat and get in shape, doing full-body work-outs are okay - but still give your body adequate time to rest.

I think the most important thing to me right now is losing body weight. I want to get toned up and build some muscle as well. I'm on a good eating plan and I do cardio for about 30 mins in the mornings, usually about 4x a week. I work out on mondays and wednesdays, sometimes throw an additional day in there as well. I've heard from a trainer friend that to lose body weight, the key is your diet, cardio, and maybe some ab exercises. Ive been doing this for a few months now. Im still in the beginning stages, but I feel like I am getting a grasp on the whole concept. Ive seen a physical difference here and there. And Ive noticed a difference in how I feel. But now, I am looking for some pretty good physical results, such as weight loss and muscle tone.

Remember that when you lose weight you lose muscle as well and it's muscle combined with a lowish body fat that gives a good looking physique.
