Frusturated

Hello,

I have been running now for 5 weeks. Which is awesome for me considering the fact that I have never been very athletic or ran at all. I run every other day averaging about 4 days a week. I started running b/c I want to lose weight. Unfortunately the scale has not gone down at all. I have put on some weight due to weight lifting. I usually run outside for 30 minutes, but recently I have started lifting and running on the tredmill at the gym. I do 30 minutes of running and 25 minutes of lifting. When I run I change from a constant pace to intervals. I want to know if this whole change in weight thing is normal? How long do you think it will take me to finally drop some weight? Am I doing something wrong? Should I change my exercise routine to get better results? I want the best and quickest results possible. I am getting really frusturated b/c I feel I am doing all this work and nothing is changing.Thank you!

don't give up :) I read it takes more than 5 weeks for sure (Im certain that ppl will give you a more accurate answer).. you should watch out for your diet like Karl said..it's very important. There's no reason for you not to lose weight in a near future if you consider the advices posted throughout this forum!

when I noticed losing weight it was early on, then when I lost alot of weight it took a few months.

Lifting is probably counteracting the runnig.

Just like karl and maf said, cut the bad food.

That means don't eat desert, snacks are fruit or something, breakfast lunch and dinner are healthy. Don't take in too many calories etc etc.

You can talk to a personal trainer or your doctor about diet advice.

I am wondering why I can not lift on the same day I do cardio. My sister lifted first and then did cardio and she ended up losing a lot of weight. That is what I am trying to do. I don't lift every time I do cardio, but 2 days out of the week I do it on the same day. Is it not beneficial?

I didn't mean in the same day I apologize. I meant in the same session. After 30 minutes of running how much energy do you have left? And only lifting for 25 mins? At 3 sets each I can only squeeze in 3 or 4 exercisces in that time. What type of weight routine are you doing?

Well I actually lift first and then I run for 30 minutes. I do 2 sets of 12 reps on each machine. I am a beginner and I don't want to over exert myself. I am always sore just off of doing that. I normally do my chest, triceps, biceps, shoulders, abs, quads, hamstrings, butt, calves, inner and outer thighs. I do this twice a week with 2 days of rest in between. See I run about 4 days a week and 2 of the days I do weights with cardio and 2 of the days just cardio. I am to inpatient to sit at the machines for any longer. Also the machines are all in a row so I just rotate thats why it only takes me about 25-30 minutes. Hopefully this makes some sense.

If your not seeing results from all that then you probably need to clean up your diet and maybe do that full body routine 3 days per week. You have to step outside your comfort zone to make progress.

I think it is probably your diet.

The amount of calories you would burn running a marathon is still about the same as eating a Pizza Hut Pizza so doing 30 mins running at an average pace could be cancelled out by a slice of cheesecake!. You might be getting fitter aerobically by running but unless you achieve a negative energy balance you will not lose weight.

How many calories do you think I should be eating a day? I get on that fitday.com website and write down what I eat and I never ever go over 2500 calories. That was like once or twice I normally eat 2000 or less calories a day. I don't know if that is good or bad. I am usually a very good eater I don't eat a lot of junk food. I will have the occasional dessert but that is about it. Let me know how much I should be eating a day. Im 21 years old and 5'6 if that is of any help. Thanks again!

With the new change in your routine, you may be turning your weight into muscle, which as we know, muscle weighs more than fat. I would definitely check your diet, but dont get discouraged, the muscle you are putting on now will help reduce the fat later.

I agree with Tony there. Don't go by the scale, use your mirror and the way your clothes fit. Here is where to find out exactly how much you should be eating (make sure you enter your correct exercise level)
